X5 newbie saying hi

Post by gadgetJunky72 » Tue Feb 14, 2012 9:41 pm

Hi Folks,

After quite a few years away I'm back in a BMW. I just bought myself a '55 plate X5 3.0d sport and i'm loving it :D

I'm surprised, but pleased, to see such a specific forum. Saying that i used to be a member of one just for Z4s and am currently a member of one just for 911s so i shouldn't be surprised really.

I used to have a '55 plate Range Rover Sport a few years ago and first impressions are that the X5 handles so much better, but the trade off is a firmer ride. I think the seats in the RRS were more comfortable. I had the 2.7 diesel RRS and the 3.0d X5 definitely has more power, as you'd expect i guess. I'm still undecided on which one looks better.

I'm feeling pretty lucky as (IMHO of course) I now have the perfect garage. An X5 for the daily motorway commute and a 997 C2S for the weekend and the odd track day.

Here's a pic of the X5:

and the 997 if anyone is interested:

I've had it less than a week and amy already looking at mods. The curse of the forum. I've bought a 1.4 scanner in the hope that I can get the aux heating working and am deciding on which iPod interface to get. I'm leaning towards the Dension gateway 100 as i think i had it in my Z4 before and it worked fine. I have a mObridge in the 997, but that is for fibre optic systems, which i believe the e53 doesn't have.

Looking forward to some great times ahead with the X5 and the forum.

Cheers

Pav

Warm welcome to the forum and don't post any more - I'm jealous! Lovely garage you have there!

You're gonna ask which is better looking on an X forum - think you know the answer!

iPod interface - you've obviously been reading up and probably know my answer... (none of the above btw) ;)

And correct, no fibre optics in the E53.

More pics (and go on then the Porker can have it's limelight too).

I'm based in NW London, but spend a lot of time in Sanj's neck of the woods (quickly checks google maps to make sure). Currently working in Bracknell and have spent a lot of time in Reading too.

Hi and welcome. Definitely a good choice of toys.

Do you use the bike for commuting or just better weather?

the bike is just a bit of fun really. only used when the weather is good. if that coincides with a day when I'm in the London office then its used for commuting too.
