The X5 is going but thank you

Post by Lee4.8is » Thu Feb 09, 2012 6:05 pm

My x5 goes on saturday the fuel bills have finally beaten me,but i have had 17 months & 15k miles of fun & have made some lovely forum friends on here,so thanks very much.

I have swapped it for a 520d m sport touring, 59 plate in grey with a manual gearbox,i never really enjoyed the auto in the x as i felt detached from the driving experience, obviously the 5 series wont be a road rocket but looking forward to 50 plus mpg!

I will still browse the forums if you let me!!! thank you for all the advice & banter its been great fun.

As you said - no need to leave and post the pics of the 5 when you get it. Always nice to have a comparison views between cars that the members have.

Good luck with the 5, as you say, not the same but will be a great car none the less. :)

Rocket it might not be, but I don't think you'll find the 520 to be much of a slug either. Can't argue with that mpg though. Our E53 finally went because she could not keep up with the fuel bills - on a 3.0D - and she now has the Mini. Hasn't quite achieved 50mpg yet on the 2.0 Cooper SD, but it's still very new.

As pvr said, don't be a stranger. My E53 has been gone for a while now, but I'm still here annoying people and bantering and you just never know when something comes up that you know about.

Good luck with the new toy.

Good luck with your new buy and I like the sound of 50mpg :-) I'm deliberating on my 4.8 due to the same reasons :-(

i hear on other threads that you can get close to 40mpg on yours, if u convert to lpg. not sure if the up-front is recoverable in resale though..

The 4.8 is an awesome motor with a wonderful engine, but it really hurts your pocket if you drive it as intended.

Hope you come to a decision that suits you best & i must say the 50 mpg does appeal & i cant believe i am buying diesel never had one before, but beemer diesels are proven i believe.

Thank you for the suggestion, my father in law did mention your idea & i never followed it up.

There seems to be a few on here that have converted to lpg so it must be a good viable option.

Thanks again for your advice

Hi Lee

Sorry to hear you're selling the beast but it's sounds like you've got a great new toy coming.

I'm considering the same but still not 100% sure if I'm going to jump ship just yet. I've had my 3.d for three years in June and with the hour each way trip to work in heavy traffic the bill for diesel is really painful :-(

But like you if I sell I will still be on here :-)

Sorry to hear you're having to sell but you have a great car lined up.

And stay on the forum. Never unwelcome! You are though Penny! (I'm joking)

So many owners thinking of jumping ship...

But fuel prices are just stupid at the mo and can't see them coming back down...

My annual mileage has gone from 12k to less than 5k, and we think about every journey and almost route plan everything. No more just 'nipping out'. Both of us are now official home workers (there are a few advantages to the IT Industry) which means all our work mileage is recovered from my employer and the HMRC via tax refunds. That beng said, we've had travel restrictions put in place so I get nothing at present as I'm a Manager and therefore deemed an 'overhead' so my costs are not directly recovered. My wife's are fully chargeable though.

We tend to use the Mini as the runaround and the 330Cd has been SORN'd and is in storage. Just need to watch that we stay below the agreed annual mileage allowance set when we bought it.

there are hopefully a similar number or more hoping to jump in :)

'hopefully' i say for a reason - cos that's what will determine demand and keep the price up

tbh, my own justification for the e53 is that my daily ride is my own two poor legs... they can't match the 219 horses but they're a lot less hungry than the 6 pots inside the X!

Thank you again for the kind comments everyone i really appreciate it.

Picked the new motor up today & i am pleased with it in terms of the economy 54mpg!

I will always love the x5, its a great motor & i loved the sound of the glorious V8 but the 5 is a lovely steer & i will keep in touch on the forum because you are such a great bunch & you have always offered me great advice.
Thanks as always,
Lee
