Real world MPG Information Database

I don't remember coming across this before, but it's part of the Honest John site and allows car owners to enter their average mpg data from their own cars so that you can get an idea of what the real world data looks like as against the manufacturers fundamentally flawed test data based on the currently unrealistic Euro Test all car manufacturers are required to follow. It only covers the most recent BMW models - but includes the E53. Figures certainly look the same as I'm used to seeing on our three.

It obviously needs people to be honest and a good sample series, but over time it should get better, especially if more and more people use it and add their correct data. There are blanks, but the most common models have data available.

You can add your own data without registering....so go on.. :)

Interesting that the 30d currently shows combined of 26.8 and the 40d 27.4. I'm guessing these are from only 1 or 2 users providing information so probably not representative - maybe mr lead wellies in the 30d - I had always thought the 30d was a lot more frugal than the 40d. I get high 20s in my 40d and had thought the 30d gets low to mid 30s?

Official BMW figures separate the two by about 1mpg. I get 30 on day-to-day running and 36mpg on a long run in my 40d.

:? No results for the V8 petrols?

My best from a 4.4 is 21/22. The all time worst was literally 7  which was a daily commute of very short runs on cold days over three months. I wish i'd never even looked at the computer :driving:

Only covers later models? Or they just missed it. Send them a mail and ask them to add it for you :D

I also just sent one for the 35d - also reported as missing.

Bit of an old topic but here goes anyway:  Recent trip from Toronto area to the East coast of Canada - all data from the OBC.

4310 km travelled = 2678 miles
average speed 87.9 kph = 54.6 mph
27.0 mpg (US) = 32.4 mpg (UK)

A fair bit of highway driving at between 110 and 120 kph, but mixed in with Monteal at rush hour, finding hotels and restaurants pootling about Prince Edward island and some hilly stuff on Nova Scotia and in Maine.
On the first tankful we did 1010 (627 miles) km with 40 km left by the time we filled up - and that included some city driving as well.

Last run in X5 4.4 I I'd was to norfolk and got average of 23.9mpg going up cruising at 70 ish and 23 mpg on the  return journey.

However I used it to work 18 miles each way and it returned 22mpg which given rush hour traffic I thought was ok and it did put a smile on my face every day which made it worth it.

We have just got back from the Alps with our 4.8

Did 2500,ish miles with 1950 of them towing a 1635kg caravan the other miles were driving the likes of St Gotthard pass brisk.

We got an average of 19.1 MPG for the whole trip, checked after every refill VS the Computer I found the computer to be anout 0.2mpg above my real world calc.

I guess a derv would do better but that sound going up the passes with the pano roof open was the best sound track.

Rich...
