New Owner of 30d or 40d Questions

Post by 55NF » Wed Jan 25, 2012 9:38 am

Hi All - I'm looking for an April 2010 or newer X5 30d or 40d & unsure which one to go for.

Another point is whether to go for Carbon Black or Sapphire . I'll be painting the grill black as well as the shadowline around the windows.

Will a flat black look ok against the Carbon black? or maybe best to wait for a Sapphire black so all the black matches perfectly when I paint the grill & chrome bits?

Opinions appreciated.

Welcome to the Site

I have the 3.0sd (twin turbo) and friends have the 4.0d. I think if you want more fuel economy and you dont race around the place the 3.0d will be fine......but youll find the 4.0d power intoxicating.......best find a dealer with both and have a test drive.

I have mine in the sapphire black...pics in the new gallery sections :)

Again it personal preference....just didnt like the carbon black......bit too bluey for me. Sure youll be happy what ever you get

Thanks.... I'm weighing up a few deals which have been offered today. Would prefer the Sapphire over Carbon tbh, but the Carbon takes me back to me old E46 M3! I'll take a look at your pics

I would say the low down torque of the smaller turbo of the twin turbo is well worth the extra premium (if there is one second hand)

I have carbon and love it - I'll add some pics in the gallary soon too

Carbon is on my list as well. Been browsing the BMW web site but am not convinced that it is worth going for a used one when a 2 year old is the same as the new cost minus 10k.

I am sure if you push for a deal you can get that gap even smaller. Must do some test drives soon.

Thanks... :D Dealers have been calling me today as well as other finance establishments. I have someone looking out for the right car for me & hopefully will get it done & dusted soon. I'm opting for a 30d, main reason being as I had a 330d M Sport Coupe & then a 335dm Sport Coupe. Even after mapping the 335 there was little in it performance wise, and when travelling around town I don't need it. The 30d X5 will be enough for me & I'd rather have better economy.

I've had E46 M3's, Merc CLS 320, Merc C350 Sport, 911 997 S... just fancy a different comfortable car. Also have a 118d M Sport at present.
