Then it needed a reset!
Lots of short journeys, probably left running a lot......
They are not economical in the true sense of a diesel but not that bad!

Something definitely wrong there, be interesting to know what the use had been since the last reset, but methinks it had done a lot of idling. Only ever seen those figures if the car has been idling a lot straight after a refill and not travelled far - like less than 100metres! The figures get more reasonable within a couple of miles of normal driving. Mine averages 32-24mpg at 6,000 miles. Around town it's 28-29. Even using Sport and a lead foot doesn't give that bad a fuel use figure. I've never seen less than mid-twenties, and even that took some doing and was whilst the dealer was showing me the car functions when I was taking delivery and we had the engine running (it was dark).

That's just been moved around the dealer's yard at a few mph, but probably at plenty rpm. A quick reset would sort the true figure.

I brought a new 40d se at the start of last year. I am very pleased with the MPG and I get 37 on a run and 31 around town, all the time.
I had a V8 before and got around 14 town and 18 on a run, needless to say it was a killer.
