I dont think they come with heating element in seat so a strip down (or seats with elements and correct leather colour req).

Not sure on wiring if its in the loom as standard.

I once asked a dealer if BMW front heated can be retrofitted as OEM and told no, its a sh1tty after market job with control buttons on seat side. Though what do dealers know ;)

Retrofit heated seats

Post by n1k85 » Sat Jan 21, 2012 11:10 am

I'm not sure on the X5 but on the E46 it involves totally swapping the 2 front seats for heated ones, buying a small wiring loom, running it under the carpet, then buying a whole new switch panel and wiring it up.

It's a big job, otherwise I'd want to do it in my X! I really miss my heated seats I had in my last 2 BM's

I did this on an E53 X5 (see my 'How to' on this topic). That job is easy but you do need replacement seats with the heaters installed, plus a switch module for the dashboard that also has the switches. E53 did not need coding.
I suspect the E70 will be more complex and need coding though I have no direct knowledge of that.

It seems from here http://www.cartronics.co.uk/BMW-X5-E70- ... ated-Seats that it is indeed possible to retrofit heated seats to an E70.
Does anyone know any of the details? Is it just a matter of fitting the heat pads and the replacement heating control buttons with the seat controls and coding it all together?

Does this mean removing the seat covers?  If so I'd strongly recommend not doing this, you'll never get them to re-fit the same way again.  I had a leather seat cover replaced on a previous BMW and it was never quite the same after and they had a number of attempts at it.

I hired a X5 35i when I was out in Florida last week.  No navigation, no sun protection glass (which is needed out there), no parking sensors front or rear, no DAB tuner in fact not very much at all but even that had heated seats!  Somewhat ironic given the climate out there!

Removing and replacing the seat covers is east enough if you're careful. I had it done perfectly before.
I'm still looking for a solution on this if anyone has one.
