Detailed a friends E46 M3 - pic heavy

Post by Raj » Fri Jan 20, 2012 12:18 am

Wasn't sure if this was the right place to post up but hey.... :D

Well, I finally got my mates M3 in for a full enhancement detail (and thought I'd share). We'd been discussing it for a while and so he finally dropped it off.

It was in a bit of a state after being looked after for the last year by the £3 carwash incorporated...

Started off with the interior as the weather was not so good.

How she was when Sonny dropped her off:

Removed the headrests for ease, gave the leather a good clean and feed using Swissol and then gave the rest of the interior a good clean:

Finally got it outside:

Started with the wheels using Bilburry wheel cleaner. Inside and out including the back of the spokes was done:

Gave all the usual areas a good scrub with APC:

Snow foam and a good wash down using a proper 2 bucket method and Megs Gold:

Leaves it looking so much better:

Once back in the comfort of the garage I gave it a good claying and my word:

All masked up:

Used my G220 with Sonus pads and Menzerna polish:

What I had to contend with:

Moving onto the bootlid gives a better idea with some 50/50 shots:

Once all the polishing was completed I sealed the paintwork with Carlak.

The applied a nice coating of Collinite:

Finally how it should look with a nice swirl free deep shine:

Due to the fact it's constantly dark by time I've been getting home I don't have any decent outside shots.

Hope you like.

Also while it was with me I fitted a new airbag wiring loom and straightened out the retaining plate for the airbag:

Nice work buddy - how many hours work was that?!?

Results always amaze me (I have no idea about detailing).

Without being too nosy (know he's your mate) but what's a typical ball park figure for that much work (assuming saloon car different from an E53/E70)???

Cheers Sanj.

My mate turned up to collect it with a work colleague of his and his work colleague basically thought it was a brand new car....lol.

That took me about 36 hours in total. Took 1.5 hours just to clean his wheels...lol.

Will text you. I know a couple of detailers up this way and they charge double what I have and tend to come to you so it's also your water/electricity.

It really depends what someone wants as a quick mop, wax and interior would be a lot less.

It's mostly just covering my costs and a little bit in top.

Awsome.

Right, let me get the E70 and I'll be down!

Absolutely superb job.. What an improvement.

Got an E46 330Cd MSport in need of TLC if you're bored :) :poke:

She hasn't exactly looked after it despite my nagging. Wheels need refurbing to sort out the kerb rash and it needs a proper polish too.

BTW - what goes in the slot to the right of the steering wheel on this M3?

Cheers all. It's always nice to receive praise for your efforts.

No problem X5Sport drop it off....

And as for the slot, he's had the small cubby replaced with a Clarion headunit.
