Can't get above 60

Hi All, jumped in the X5 yesterday morning to a trio of problems, when I was reversing out of the driveway the parking sensors were going mental, but there was nothing in the way. Also the drivers door would not open when I stopped, but works fine now, both of these could be down to the fact it was -8 in Scotland. But the most worrying thing is that the car will not go above 60 Mph, this can't be linked to the hard frost. Can anyone advise please. Got the car booked in for a service on Friday, coming up for 70,000 on the clock so I'm dreading bad news.
Many Thanks

No Smoke. It's a 3.0d. I do get smoke at start up, but always have.

Any excessive turbo noise?
Are the lower gears ok?

No turbo noise, Gears seem to be ok but the auto box does seem to search at around 40mph, when traveling in traffic at around 40 it feels like it cant choose between the two gears it is inbetween.

when you drive the car does it display any messages in the dash?
when i was searching for an X (before i bought mine), there was one that i test drove which came up with a msg saying 'some fault registered, max speed 60mph'.
alternatively when you say it doesn't go beyond 60 is ur car reving like mad? in which case its a transfer box problem.
re. door not opening, which reg is your car? this may help:

Haven't had it in manual mode. My wife had the car today, same problem this morning but after her work the car is back to normal......Very Strange. Hopefully service on Friday will get it back on track!

Try the gearbox soft reset next time:
Ignition position 2 - don't start the engine
Floor the accelerator pedal for 30-40 seconds
Release the accelerator pedal, step on the brake and start the engine
Move forward
It may not work but worth a go - seems software related. Being off for a while seems to have reset the car.

Sanj - you would never know you had this problem as you have never been north of 60, have you?

I thought 60mph was max speed for a 3.0d

All the vacuum hoses intact and connected? Any work been done anywhere near the turbo? Any unusual metallic noises from underneath when driving, or when idling? If the answer is yes to these last two then I would advise you don't drive it!
If you use the check control function on the instrument binnacle anything come up? Can't remember if it's the left or right button (sold mine) but someone here will know. It should run the auto-check systm for warnings.
As suggested, manually try all gears. You should be able to get 6th by 50mph. Whn in auto mode, what happens hen you select 'Sport'? It should drop at least one ratio if you are below 100mph (which by the sound of things you will be). If the tranmission goes into emergency mode it will lock in 3rd or 5th (assuming 6sp box). You may not get any error messages at all (mine destroyed three clutches and no warnings appeared) but errors will get logged and the Dealer or Indy with the right reader will find them.

seems to indicate that its not a gearbox prob if its not reving high, aint it..
so u press the accelerator, but but the engine just doesn't rev up enuf to push beyond 60mph?

Are you getting normal revs until you hit 60mph? Or is it that the engine just won't rev fully? To me that points at the turbo vacuum hoses or perhaps the air mass flow sensor? Just thinking of the options it might be. Could even be something like fuel pump delivery rate not being enough. All being fair etc, Friday's service will find it.
