Scanner 1.4.0 What Now?

Hi all, probably a very stupid question, but here goes....

I've just received my bmw scanner 1.4.0 ordered from the bay of e, but what do I do with it now?

I've downloaded the program onto my laptop, but do I need to load any additional drivers from anywhere to run it, and when I plug it into the OBD port in the car, do I need to have the ignition on, or at position 1, or can it work with it off?

Im normally quite confident doing these kind of things, but just want to make sure I'm doing it correctly incase I do any harm to the car?

Cheers all...

G

When you plug it into your computer, it should prompt you to instal drivers that you should have got with the scanner along with instructions, then You have to plug it into the OBD port, connect to computer, switch ignition to position 2, run programe.

Cheers, got it now...

Next question, how do I enable auto heating?

Also I thought I had managed to program tv in motion, but I tried locking and unlocking the car, and when I took it a spin round the block its still not working when I drive, any suggestions?

Right the tv in motion is now working, must of just needed to sit and fully shut down for it to be enabled.

What do you go into on bmw scanner for enabling auto heating on the obc?

Lol, yeah sounds like the were doing the same kind of things :-)

Actually got mine from China, I was a bit sceptical about ordering from there, but it worked out at only 30 odd quid..... this is where I got mine from...

Ordered a couple of days after christmas and it turned up yesterday.

Next for me is trying to get this parking heater enabled and replacing my faulty parking sensor oh and a service....

Have you got anything else that you are planning to do?

Thats good to hear! will just go for one of them then.

lol sounds familiar, ive got a couple of faulty sensors too, found a seller on ebay doing them for £20. so im going to get a couple of them. once i get the scanner im hoping to get the heater working, auto locking, and if possible tv in motion and for the headlights to come on when you press double unlock on the key...

was looking into how hard it was to change to factory xenons, looks pretty complicated though! think i'll just get led angel eyes and some decent bulbs, mabye even an hid kit.

what about you?

Do you have a link to the ebay seller for the parking sensors?

I've already got the auto locking working, done the tv in motion tonight but never heard of the headlights coming on with double pressing unlock... something else to look into.

I was lucky that we got one with factory xenons, I got the led angel eye bulbs a couple of days ago and got them fitted now.

I would watch out for an hid kit, im sure the law is changing or has changed regarding hid kits. I think they are now an MOT failure, worth double checking on this tho.

Think the only other things I am going to be doing is adding dvd player and tvs in rear headrests then maybe a set of the 20" alloys.

Its not even my car, its the wife's, so trying to prevent doing to much to it.... thats what my kit car's for lol!

you guys are a few steps ahead of me, in getting the aux heater enabled :) - i'm still thinking of ordering the scanner 1.4.0!

what do you mean by IKE jonny? is that an option on the scanner programme - that you have in your computer now?

overall - how easy is it to do this job once i buy the scanner 1.4.0? pls let me know how it goes, i'm not too confident plugging these things into the car, in case it wipes out the whole thing!

Hi Jaynana, IKE is one of the options on the scanner software.... I finally found it on this thread....

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=3008&hilit=heating+success

To enable the aux heater on the obc is easy once you know where to find it, just dont know if it actually works, thats a job for tomorrow night once ive read the epic 26 page thread on parking heaters lol.

I think the scanner is a worthwile purchase, if nothing else it lets you view any errors that your car has shown up and there are plenty of other things to enable etc. I'm very cautious aswell about wiping things, had a bit of a brown pants moment when I failed to upgrade the firmware, but managed to sort it with the help of these forums and Xoutpost forums.

Don't forget you can clear service timers too if you do your own servicing
