screen says CDC Error.
i checked the changer in the boot and it wont eject the cartridge.
When I press the eject button it makes a whirring noise but doesn't actually eject.
Any suggestions? BMW warranty expired 10 days ago!!!!!
All the cd changers i have seen in the past seem to have some manual eject overide, however i cant seem to find it on here.
does it have one?
all help gratefully appreciated.

A disk has got stuck or it just worn out
Try removing the power then try again if not it will need to be opened up

I got one out when I reconnected the power whilst holding the eject button (i.e. before it has a chance to do its checks).
CRC = Cyclic Redundancy Check, so read error.

I tried everything and nothing would work.
Took it apart and put it back together and now it works but I didn't actually fix anything as such. 54 screwings and unscrewings later I am still none the wiser on why it happened.
I'd still love to know where the manual eject is if there is one!
The only thing I did differently is past few days I used a music cd I burned off laptop as opposed to an original cd. Could that really be relevant?

It could if the error is a CRC. Try burning the CDs at lowest speed possible to get the most reliable CDs.

How do I know if its a CRC or not?
Just says CDC Error. It happened when the last song on the last cd finished.

CDC error is nothing to do with cd quality. It is a hardware issue. May not happen again for a while and it may rectify itself again if it does happen again but ultimately it's on it's way out. If its in warranty get it sorted. If not be prepared to swap it.

i had this issue of cd cassette not ejecting, tried that removing and fixing screws method even that didn't fix it (possibly some sensor gone bust).
eventaully i replaced it with a different cd changer off ebay. this is a rather common problem and there are loads of oem used units in ebay. u can pick one up for about £70 to £80 (mine costed £65 minus the cassette as there was nothing wrong with my cassette).
alternatively you can upgrade to a cd changer which does mp3 as well; or altogether do away with teh cd changer and fix a aux/usb gadget (ultravee/grom/other). i opted not to, and to fix an oem aux instead.

I had the same problem this week. CDC error and couldn't eject magazine. I just removed both plugs from back of changer and left for a few minutes. Then plugged it back in and it's been working fine ever since. Touch wood!
Hope yours is an easy fix too.

Strange - I had this problem in November. I unplugged it and opened it up, had a poke around and put it back together. It worked as normal but I didn't really do anything to it...

the BM54 RCM and the CD changer are notoriously faulty units on these cars. they're so faulty that if u go on ebay there are standard repair services for these units. bmw should have actually recalled and fixed these units for good.

Its a nightmare of a system, when I bought my X5 the CD changer had no magazine, so I stupidly purchased one on eBay. When I got the magazine it was getting stuck in the CD changer and the best thing to do is give the back of the changer a fecking good thump! It should release the magazine, however its never going to be reliable and the best option is get an Intravee II and an Alpine KCA-420i its the best option.......

mine did it....last track of last CD
problem....not retracting CD back into cartridge
my solution....
changer out
remove all screws
slide off the big lump (where the cables go in) mind the ribbon it's fragile
remove the plastic bits on each side that are used for horizontal/vertical setting
remove cover
look for BIG GEAR WHEEL that's horizontal with the player. Obvious when you see it as it's nearly 3" wide
rotate gear carefully and watch as it draws CD back into cartridge
when back at end stops and CD back in cartridge re-assemble.power up. eject
it's a bit like this but NOT a worm gear as shown....but a BIG horizontal gear that has a cam/groove in it that operates a lever that withdraws CD
be gentle NO BIG HAMMERS or POKING WITH BLUNT INSTRUMENTS
you don't need the front cover off either
