Im considering purchasing one of the Dension iPod kits for the X but am unsure which one to go for. I have read that the 500 is the best because it uses fibre optics for better sound quality but surley thats only the case if th cars wiring is fibre optic aswell? My knowledge on all this is very limited so any sound advice from people who have bought and installed this unit would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

The Dension 500 is a fantastic piece of kit BUT I think better suited to the newer iDrive cars WITH the fibre optic cabling - as you have rightly identified.

Now for my namesack - try a google search for the Intravee. They are the better interface for the money (in comparison) for the E53. A link for you to search for is http://www.intravention.co.uk

To stop any confusion the intravee (the little black box) will be in place of your CD Changer (one or the other) plus a KCA-420i alpine unit to connect it to the iPod. The total cost is around £250 from http://www.toysinyourcar.co.uk BUT a patient wait and you could get it cheaper through eBay or the intrevention forum (register if interested). The Dension with hit you for a ball park £350 (not researched).

The intravee setup is well sought after it appears with prices going up rather than down so you should be fine for resale value too.
