My X5 - Project Thread

Hi All,

Thought I'd start a fresh thread and get some 'real' pics of the car up now I've got her home :)

Here is my 2004 X5 3.0D

As most of you know by now, I bought it as an accident damaged car. It has been scraped up the passenger side and had some damage to the mirrors.

My first Job was to repair the mirrors, my brother ordered the plastic casing parts through his work which arrived next day, and I ordered a replacement heated mirror glass from eBay that also came the next day :)

The two rear tyres were also past the limit, but luckily my local tyre place had a few sets of part worn Michelin Diamaris knocking about and did me a great deal, at least now I'm not looking at 6 points on my licence...

The next job was to free the rear centre seatbelt, as it was jammed and would not budge. I soon got it working like new after a bit of internet digging and some elbow grease though :)

I've also ordered a new set of Angel Eye bulbs (the upgraded LED ones) which hopefully will come tomorrow, and after christmas i'll also be ordering a HID kit as i'm now used to the awesome factory xenons on my e46, these old skool bulbs just aren't up to it :P

I've also had a very reasonable quote from a local(ish) bodyshop to repair all the damage to the passenger side, I know they do great work as they did my Z4 when someone drove into it and dented the rear quarter as well as similar work on my moms Merc CLK so i'm very happy with that and will be booking the car in for repair in the new year.

My next job is to source some X5 Manuals and a replacement service book. My car has full BMW service history up to 110k, but has no service book. I have a printed record from BMW showing all the services, but I am told that if I can get a replacement service book, the appropriate dealerships will stamp it up for me if I send it to them. Anyone have any advice on this? :?

I also have no idea what the spec of my car is, so at some point I will go to BMW and ask them to print me out a copy of the factory spec list.

I will also shortly be selling my Intravee & Alpine iPod kit and will be putting the money from that into a dynavin or similar unit :)

Anyway, hope you all like it.

:D

Just to add a couple of questions: :P

Anyone know how I can change this date to be DD/MM/YY instead of MM/DD/YY?
Image

I also have a deceased hitchiker in my rear light cluster. Any way to get him out or is he a permanent fixture?

And a final pic just for good measure, just because I couldn't get my head round the width of these rims.... :| :o

Good work fella - she's looking mighty fine already!
I'm sure she'll serve you well.
What year is it BTW?

If you don't have satnav, I think you have to press the OBCD button for some time to go in the setup. This is from memory from a long time ago from my 7 series ...

Re hitchhiker - I can only think of taking the lights out and shake & vac it so it escapes through the light bulb opening.

Or if the vacuum is strong enough, perhaps sucking through the light bulb opening without removing the light.

Thanks All,

monkey29 - I have a feeling that I might have already given somone first dibs on the Intravee a few weeks ago. I haven't even removed it from my 3 series yet so nothing is definite, I may end up selling it in with the deal if I get the right price. I will let you know if and when when I do sell it though :)

And no I don't have the Nav screen. I did have it in my last 2 cars but not in the X (which is the main reason for me selling it). It does also work with the business CD player but I can't imagine it's anywhere near as good as the full satnav screen display.

UrbanFlow - Thanks mate :D, and yeah its a 2004

Pvr - I will give it a go! Many Thanks :)

Just to also mention, a few days before I bought my X5, I looked at a very late (facelift) Black 2003 3.0D that was also a CAT D with around 115k on the clock. I spoke to the seller on the phone who said I could buy it for £7800 cash. But I was put off as he said it was written off CAT D in 2008 but he had no information regarding the damage or repair (so for all I know it could have been a nasty full frontal smash, especially since it was an 03 with facelift front end) and I ended up buying the silver one instead. A few days later I got an 'eBay item ending soon' notification on my iPhone for the Black X5 and it ended on £8900!.. For a 2003 CAT D! Made me extra happy with the price I paid for mine :)

Took it out of my e46 a few days ago mate :)

I'm just deciding if I should sell it now or hook it up to my 'Business CD' player in the X5 and live with the one line display until I get a Hualingian/Dynavin. Problem is my pixels are messed up on my CD Player so I'm not even bothering to test it yet. I ordered a Pixel Repair Ribbon last week, but when it came they had sent me the one for the Speedo Pixel repair insted of the MID stereo one :headbang: Hopefully will receive the correct one in the next few days :)

I just bought brand new Intravee @ Intravee switch a few weeks ago, otherwise would have had it all off you. Shouldn't have a problem selling finding one second hand is nearly impossible when I was looking. Good luck with the x5.

My cd changer is driving me insane jumping at the mo so need to upgrade ASAP. Might go for the media bridge if I can't get an intravee at a decent price. Keep me posted n1k85

Looks good. You've done a grand job. Got an OE widescreen headunit if you want it in the for sale section as well as an OE interchanger.

Thanks Raj,

I had a quick look at your Headunit, but i'm guessing (if it's anything like the e46) I will need the Headunit, Wiring Harness, Radio Module and loads of other gear to get it working with my car. (as I currently have the basic CD deck) I've had the OEM Nav in my last 2 beemers and althlough I ran the latest Maps and Software; it was a little outdated to say the least. When I've got the cash I'll hopefully get one of those £370 eBay DVD/BT/iPod/TV headunits.

Cheers for the heads up anyway :)

Also... You're in Wolves? Where abouts? Is that Pic above RAF Cosford?
