Hi
I have a 2000 E53 4,4i sport, the rear heater is blowing cold air on one side and the vent on the other side in stuck in the closed position and wont budge. I have the heater set to hot not cold and have turned the temp up in the front, but it still blows cold in the back.
any ideas what this could be and is it an easy fix
thanks
janette

I know in my now thankfully ex, Range Rover, there were blend motors which caused this same thing - cold air blowing one side or other when it should be hot. I think your model year X shares lots of heritage bits with Range Rover P38s and early L322s........perhaps a similar issue if yo've got full aircon at the rear - this was an optional extra and most Xes don't actually have full Rear Aircon, the controls will just operate the fans. Check your upper mid dashboard fan control - turn it upwards towards the RED dots for it to blow warm air and downwards to Blue for cold air...... Also make sure the icicle push button switch on the lower dash is off or that the temp is cranked up to 20+ on the mini displays if its on.......

Slightly OT. But I always believed I had rear aircon as that's what the options list showed when I purchased the car @ 30 months (second owner).
I assumed rear aircon was fitted based on the fact that I have a both a blower speed AND temperature control dial in the rear. Does everyone have temp control in the rear? If not, then I guess that temp control does indicate rear aircon.

Mine has the blower on or off and the temp hot or cold (blue or red). Nothing more - did't think E53's had rear aircon?

Hmmm. Just checked my options list again and it states I have option "533 Rear air conditioning".
I checked the US 2005 options list and it shows this as part of the "rear climate package" (along with rear sun blinds" and "rear privacy glass".
Obviously, US model specs often differ to Euro/UK. Thus, I then checked the UK Sep 2006 price list and it shows "Air conditioning at the rear" as a £205 option across the range.
Though, not sure if I have it now! Anyone got anything more than the blower dial and temp control dial? i.e. a digital temp display or blower/temp buttons as per up front?

My 4.8 has an "options list" with most of the boxes ticked - one of them is the "rear climate control" package as per Brewer's description - it was an option on order, albeit probably one of the less necessary ones, I think it added about £300 to the price.........a bit like the rear view mirrors with compasses inbuilt, although they were only about £100 options!!! But the Climate Control front or rear, isn't two separate systems AFAIK, but the Rear CC package can be independently set to the passengers liking.

I had Rear CC specced on mine and it allows fully independant temp control of the rear vents. Used to leave mine on cold, pull the cup holder out and leave a couple of bottles in there - kept them nicely chilled. If you don't have CC, does changing the temp of the upper front vents have any effect? I know this can override parts of the CC system - or it did on mine - and that might affect the rear if it's set to fully cold. I used to leave mine 'in the middle', as the CC then ran correctly and matched the temp set on the two front controls.
