Hi Again
I posted on the last site about my problems which led to my V8 dropping a bottom end. Anyway I have started to build the engine up and thought I would post some pics as I went on (if I have done it right). Just to to get my head around BMWs bearing colour coding

Been away working for a few weeks, so that is the condition its in at the moment. Just waiting for the spares to arrive before I get started. Getting this far was easy, its getting it back together thats going to be hard!!

Welcome back Ian
and good luck with the rebuild thanks also for taking the time to post some pics up
as it's not easy when working on the car
but is very interesting to see parts of the x instead of full photo's

Work still continuing. crank is in and pistons ready to go. Finally sussed BMW bearing coding but still checking clearances with plastigauge. Remarkably relaxing working on all these bits. Spares cost so far around £2600 including 2 conn rods. I see I could get fully recon engines from e-bay for £3000, but with the cost of the consumable spares I am not sure how they can do that. Glad I am not paying soemone to build the engine as I have forgotten how many hours I have in this now
Not working on it tomorrow as its Croft BSB.

At last the bottom end is done, next step is timing up the vanaos units after fitting the heads. Cant wait
Total cost of bits so far £2700

Yeah nice pictures, very interesting to see the V8's internals. Brave to take on such a task but i'm sure it will pay off with a huge sense of satisfaction!
Nice bike too!

Can we see what it is yet?
Would have been done by now except for damage caused to the passenger side inlet cam caused by a certain independant BMW 'specialist' Its not a good photo but you can see part of the vanos seal ring is missing. This has also smashed the ring land off the cam so it is scrap. Think I might set up doing engine rebuilds as I am sure I couldnt do a worse job than the experts

Engine is now finished and sitting on my bench. But a couple of days before I was going to fit it, I had the rest of the car stolen from outside my house. A couple of guys turned up with a towtruck at 11 at night and towed it away on a towing rig
However I gave chase and after a bit of round the doors managed to persuade them to give it back. The bonnet and wing have taken a bit of a battering, but as everything else was removed to get the engine out it shouldnt be too much work to get it fixed. Anyway its in the hands of the insurance company now so refitiing the engine will have to wait. I will post some more engine photos in a couple of days.

Well lets face it, no one was expecting that response, least of all me....
Nicely done getting it back, words escape me for what might have been going through your mind at the time.
Good on ya mate, just think how in a while you can look back and laugh at it.....
