Aux heating enabled - questions

Post by Smeeagain » Sun Dec 11, 2011 12:01 pm

I enabled AUX heating with my scanner. From that I've read elsewhere Timer 1 and Timer 2 is the start time. But what is 'Direct Mode' shown on scree underneath Timer 2. When I come out to my X5 after the time that Timer 2 should have stopped the AUX heating is still running and Direct Mode is enabled (even though I have set it when I set Timer 1 and 2. Does it just run continuously if I dont get to it to reset it? If so what is the point oif Timer 2?

Funnily enough, I've just (i.e. this morning) enabled my AUX heating with my scanner too. I believe Direct Mode means "turn it on now" and it will run for 30 mins.

Timer 1 will turn it on at the specified time (e.g. morning) and run for 30 mins.
Timer 2 will turn it on at the specified time (e.g. afternoon) and run for 30 mins.

Enabling AUX heating with the scanner has made to AUX vent feature unavailable. Slightly unexpected but not the end of the world. I'll just disable AUX heating when spring comes and enable AUX vent when the blistering temperatures of a British summer arrives and I can blast warm outside air into an even warmer interior.

Got to say, I'm delighted with it and it works like a charm. Nice toasty interior after 20 mins although due to a faling battery, I need to keep my car on a battery charger until the new battery arrives.

Timer 2 is a 2nd starting time, not a stop time.

So if you set timer 1 at 9am and timer 2 at 9.30, it wont start at 9 and stop at 9.30, it`ll start a 9, then start it`s 2 timer at 9.30 and hence finish at 10am.

So you only need to set timer 1, it`ll then run for 30mins and stop automatically. The handbook also says you shouldn`t use it twice in succesion without driving in between as it drains the battery too much.

Direct mode starts it straight away for 30mins, just like pressing the on button on a webasto remote.

Pretty sure I already know the answer to this question, but since I killed my MID stereo attempting a ribbon repair, I've now got a Hualingan SatNav/DVD head unit (not fitted yet).

is there any other way to set the AUX heater timers other than via the stereo? or am I stuck with a cold car in the mornings?

Also, how do you enable the 'direct mode?' is that done through the MID stereo too?

Any help woudl be great!

You could rig up a remote for the aux heating and enable it via that?

If I ever get my webasto working on 12v I will be fitting a gsm unit from www.danhag.de so I can turn it on or off with a phone call.

Aux heating enabled - questions

Mine blew out loads this morning but I'm used to it doing that in very cold weather. It does always make me panic a bit as there's so much but hey it's not let me down yet.

Normal - diesel car Webasto aux heater exhaust comes out under front passenger seat. And should of smelt of burnt oil.

Usually at 7 degrees and below before it will go off (at least on mine).

I wouldnt worry, Its just the heater unit burning off diesel. If the units a little tired it can take a few attempts to get going and in that time you get a build up diesel in the burner and when it does light this gets burnt of creating lovely clouds

waw! come to think of it - it is a loophole that aux fuel burning stuff is not under emission control regs!

i wouldn't mind a spare fuel burning unit which produces mechanical movement instead of heat, to add add a few horses at the push of a button..

I have the aux heater on my car but on the nav screen it says Aux Ventilation. If I set the timer the fan comes on but no heat.
The heater is working as it gets hot when you sart the car on a cold morning and it is puffing out the smoke from the vent under the car.
Do I need to do something else to get it to work ? :?

that's the default config of most cars shipped to the uk.

aux vent is useless really.

aux heater - u can get it enabled in the car's computer to get it to run on a timer (similar to the aux vent). alternatively u can get a remote kit fixed to enable it from a remote.
