4.4 Engine Failsafe Program Help!!!!

Post by swipe » Sun Dec 04, 2011 5:20 pm

Guys got a bit of a problem with my 4.4 the "engine failsafe program" has come up on the dash. I've run my 1.4 scanner through it and it tells me that codes 131 (Throttle acutator jammed), 132 (Activation throttle actuator), 103 (Function, monitoring, control unit).

I've done some research and found that the throttle body needed to be changed, so bought a brand new part fitted it but still can't get the "engine failsafe program" to clear.

Each time I run the scanner it sometimes clears the codes but it will still flash up the engine failsafe and the car runs really rough, no throttle input from the pedal so the car is undriveable.

I think that once the failsafe program is cleared it should run back to normal. I've replaced to the battery as well and was hoping that while the battery was off it might clear it, but it didn't.

Really need some help guys if anyone knows what I should do, cos if not its a call for a towtruck down to my indy to see if they can do anything?

Car's at the indy's and he says it should be a plug and play unit, but it's still showing up on the codes the same. He thinks the DME unit maybe at fault been in touch with Jason about this.

according to TIS a faulty throttle body adjusts the adaptations in the DME unit, these must be reset when fitting a new unit

Very simple - i've done this twice now both times without 'coding' the TB. You do need to clear the codes and then reset the adaptations using some software like INPA, GT1 or whatever you choose. But after that you simply turn the ignition to pos II until you hear the TB stop moving, turn car off for 10 seconds, repeat the process once more, turn the key back to pos II once more and after you hear the TB stop moving that last time, start the car. Works everytime.

I have a spare TB for the v8's if anyone needs one.

You only need to clear the error code once, at the start
