Hi can anyone tell me how difficult it is to change the starter motor on a 2004 3.0 diesel please,can it be done without putting it on a ramp etc,many thanks

You will certainly need axle stands or a set of ramps to dive the front wheels onto just so you have some clearances to work in.

I don't think it's a difficult job though. Disconnect the battery completely, remove a splash guard, undo a couple of bolts and the battery cables. It will be heavy though! Any device drawing 2kW (160A plus) off the battery is not going to be light.

It's covered in the TIS Guide here: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2916. Note that it's under the M57 engine version and not the M57TU so is probably pretty much the same.
