Hi all,
A mate of mine has a vw golf tdi and is having a few probs so is looking for an afordable diagnostics kit to check his car with.
A bit non bmw this one but i told him i would ask on here as there are many knowledgeable folk on here who may be able to point him in the right direction.
He's looking for a vw version of my bmw 1.4.0 if that makes any sense to you

I think it is called VGA or something smilar for diagnostic tool for VWs

I have the full version of the software (VAGCOM), and bought a dedicated cable for the ODB2 port on ebay for a tenner.

The freeware version of the software will give you a couple of errors, the full version allows you to reset the error codes on the dash as well as showing full details of the errors as well.

I used it recently after I had to change a coil pack on my mother in laws car. Reset the engine light and it told me which coil pack I needed to replace.

As said, I got the full version of this, but the free version will tell you the error codes though.

Check compatibility on the ebay link, don't know what MK Golf it is.

Mitch, I have a version of VAGCOM and I use a basic OBDII lead.

Do you use a OBDII to your PC for your X? If so, prob the same one will work as my VAGCOM lead works on BMW for engine an box also.

All you would need is some free software.

Thanks all just to follow up he has sold the car now so no need for diagnostics but the OBD11 lead that came with my bmw 1.4.0 scanner does fit the MK5 golf as Russ said.
