pan sunroof scratching

Cleaning the car today, I noticed that the sliding panel is starting to scratch along one side. It's clearly from the mechanism, because it looks like a train track being scratched.

Anyone else seen this?

Never heard of it scratching before, poss some grit / small stone trapped inside?

Is the scratch on outside or inside of glass?

It's on the outside. Need to check if it's visible from the inside.

Put a few layers of tape on the roof and slide it back and forth,some of the older cars suffered from the inside of the roof rusting
The tape will see if there is rust there or even remove any dirt
