WINTER TYRE PRICES

Just been hunting around for a friend who has a Merc ML and thought I would pass on what I found. It is clear that there are large differences in prices and some people are obviously trying to profit from supply difficulties. I suspect that this will get worse as soon as we see a bit of ice and the forecasters tell us it will be a grim winter again.
I was looking for 4 Vredestein Wintrac 4 Extremes (255/55 r18) which I have and rate highly. Some places wanted over £250 a corner - in one case £300. My usual source (Camskill) seems to have no stock.
Best price I found by a long way was Tyremen based in Hull who quoted £140 a corner and seemed very helpful.
As it turned out my mate went for Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow at his local for about £660 having used the Tyremen price to beat them down.
If anyone wants winter tyres, I would strongly recommend getting them now whilst we have the last bit of warm weather to avoid the rush and inevitable price hiking.

Tyremen are official importers for Vredestein and are usually priced better than others while stocks last - Camskill are great if there's stock, but most of their winter stuff hasn't been replenished from last year and what they had, is gone. I agree fully - buy them now, you know you'll need them sometime - even if there's no snow, temps will drop below 7 degrees C and there will be ice on the roads!!!1

I have to admit that I've ordered the set for the Mini, and it's not even been built yet! BMW have 800 sets for the whole of Europe and the Countryman is selling like mad. The same wheels fit a number of BMW models too. I think it is very sound advice to get the tyres now. My X6 ones arrived during the snow in January, but I wanted and ordered them about a month earlier. My supplier had quite a struggle sourcing them. The labels on them said Micheldever Tyres who I know used to be a very good place for cheap rubber.

Got a call from my local tyre place today and I'm having a set of Vred Wintrac 4 extreme's fitted on Sat. I'm having to put them on my standard 19's as I left it too late to source some smaller alloys at sensible money. Tyres are £720 fitted. I could get them cheaper from Tyremen but by the time I've got them fitted the small saving isn't worth the hassle. The lad at the tyre place didn't seem to have any problems getting winter tyre stock in either.
