Check brake linings warning, wont go off

Post by deckie77 » Wed Oct 05, 2011 10:52 am

Hi everyone,

Check brake lining warning showed up last week, so booked in yesterday, and sure enough rear brake drums / discs / shoes worn, so replaced all rear brakes / shoes / Pads & both rear brake sensors, everything working well but the warning on the dash remains, how do i get the message away??

Any response appreciated.
Cheers,
Deckie.

Check the fronts too - you have a sensor there.

Rear sensor was replaced and the warning did go out?

Cheers Sanj but the front discs & pads were cleaned up & replaced as they were not worn, so i figured it was the rears that triggered the warning, should the warning just dissapear once the system thinks all is well, or is there need to be plugged into some BMW machine to put the light off????

Both rear sensors were changed out for new ones.

Only one sensor on rear drivers side and one on front near side.

To reset the light try this:-

Turn the ignition to position 2 and leave it with out starting the engine. the manual might say 30 secs but i had to leave mine on for a couple of minutes before the light went off.

Failing that, if you disconnect the battery for 10 mins or so it might reset the light :)

If they 'think' they replaced 2 sensors they replaced the ABS sensor as well (I think).

gmc15 has it right - I switched the car on, the warning was there and then 30 seconds to a minute later it disappeared.

The battery reset is a good second option.

Thanks folks, it was as simple as you's said, turned the key to on with out starting left for a minute and it dissapeared - Happy days.
I also checked with my mech and he confirmed the 2 sensors were 1 front & 1 rear, i mis understood it when he told me of what he had fitted during the repair.

Thanks agian guy's,
Deckie.
