Help me decide which X5

Post by M@r]{ » Mon Oct 03, 2011 3:45 pm

Ok we've narrowed our search down to 2 cars. And cannot decide which one to go for:

3.0d 04 Plate in Black, cream leather
72k miles
6months tax
FSH, BMW except last two
3 owners
Sat Nav
Sunroof
Get a really good feeling about the seller of this, although a car dealership its his car (for 2yrs)
Up for £12995, think I can get it for £12500

3.0d 54 plate in Grey/Green, cream leather
96k miles
No tax
FBMWSH
1 owner from new
Sat Nav, comfort pack, DSP, Pan Sunroof, Towbar (something we need)
15month warranty (apparently a decent one)
£11550

So to summarise do I pay an extra £1k for a black one (more desireable?) with 24k less miles but has less options, is 6months older, had more owners and not all BMW serviced?

to be brutally honest, looking on the trader and knowing what i paid for mine which is newer than both and high spec, i would say they both need to be cheaper, the second with no tax is to add £260 to. I would see if you could haggle the first to 11-11.5k remember its a buyers market and the dealers/sellers could find them quite hard to shift, they guzzle juice and diesels at it highest price ever! there are plenty about ive had my current x5 6 months and some are still for sale what i viewed! i got £1250 off screen price and it wasnt over priced to begin with i was just very cheaky and when he turned it down i walked away, a day later the phone rang he had re considered i said so have i and got a new tyre out of it as well!!! just be cheaky and bargain well!!

I tried haggling with both and both just about knocked me back. The first one agreed to knock £200 and the second about £400 (and that was after initially walking away and calling back today) The second one is very high spec, has quite a few expensive options. The first one is about average on the options front. Price wise they seem about right with whats on Autotrader?? From Trade anyway?

I had seen that Cat D one, does look good for the money but Sat Nav is on our must list. So what with that being Cat D and no sat nav its not something we'd consider. Thanks for pointing it out though

Help me decide which X5

After having an E53 with sat nav I have to say it's one of the worst sat navs I have used in a vehicle. Those prices don't seem too bad to me.

I just traded in my 55 plate E53 with 42k miles 2 weeks ago and got 15k for it and the E70 I traded it for was very reasonably priced too.

You could get the Hualingan unit? That will give you the SatNav...

See this link - add £500 to the expense of the car to get this:

Car looks good, just need to investigate where it was hit and what was fixed, etc.

I never really use the nav but the dash just looks so much better with it in there. Easier to sell too.

I wouldn't retrofit it but I wouldn't buy one without it either

Wow, Im selling mine at the moment which is the same as the one above, but in blue and an 05 plate for £8750.

Think you need to be asking for more money off but then again mine is proceed low as I need to sell it soon as I am emigrating.

Good luck with what ever you get, they are awesome cars.

interesting to see the comments regarding the satnav,I wasnt bothered about having having it as I do think it looks dated along with the interface, much better to have a decent stand alone satnav I feel

It works out about £2800 cheaper. We plan on keeping it for 5yrs covering around 18k per year. Its not just the fuel cost, its the ability of diesels engines to go on for many miles that appeals too

Do not worry about cat D they were never a mangled wreck, normally light damage, insurance companies write them off with slight damage when they get old,
Don't buy a cat C, they usually were a mangled wreck or very close,
anyway if you're no good with spammers make sure you get a good warranty, and that normally means the car will be expensive.

I can't recommend the diesel enough, 500 miles plus on a full tank, and the performance is amazing, :D
