Hi Guys and Gals,

As the subject above says I keep getting the DSC 4x4 inactive lights on and message on the dash. If I drive nicely it doesnt come on but if I push it a bit ie getting out of a junction or overtaking then it comes on. Has anybody experienced similar and what did you do to overcome this. It has only been happening since I picked it up from the garage after my lots of smoke experience. I drive a 2005 3.0 diesel in estoril Blue

Appreciate any thoughts or remedies

Kind regards in advance

Jt

It could just be a sensor not measuring the rotation of one of your wheels correctly meaning it thinks you are losing traction?

This could be a number of things but for me it was a wheel speed sensor (also known as a pulse generator) front nearside IIRC.
From memory it was about £50 from the dealers and took me about 5 mins to do :) just need an allen key.

Had this exact problem back on February, mines turned out to be the transfer box/case. Only the dealer could fix it due to coding and the bill was £3000 and that was with discount.

Hopefully yours is only a sensor!

I had it once although it's a long shot as the fault as the OP suggests no tinkering with steering

My steering wheel (after a track rod end replace) was slightly off centre. The x5 read this as infeasable steering angle...as in turning right whilst all wheels rotating equal as in going straight. This kicked out 4 wheel drive as yours does. Restart of engine temp fixed nd was diagnosed via the codes. straightened wheel and problem went away

my 2p worth

codes will reveal all

Hi All,

Finally sorted out DSC inactive issue. As Buster advised earlier in the thread it was found to be an issue with the actuator on the transfer case. A local indy dismantled the actuator and found a plastic gearing mangled. A new actuator was sourced from Germany and fitted today. All ok at present cost was £500 + Vat + £100 labour. Would have been more if it was an automatic gearbox. Thanks for you responces always helps when trying to diagnose.

Kind regards Jt
