Xenon problem

Right then folks, a quick question for you all. Can you help with this at all?

I have had for quite a while a problem with my OE nearside dipped beam xenon headlight. It always fires up first time, but should I turn the lights off then on again within say 30 seconds, the nearside fails to fire and I get the dash warning up. If I leave the lights off for a few minutes it will fire up again.

Also yesterday whilst driving back from Manchester, after about 2 hours of being on, the same lamp just went out.

I'm thinking ballast, but have any of you any experience or thoughts on this?

Any help is appreciated.

Hi mate,

It sounds like a definate Ballast fault to me, but it could be the bulb / connection to bulb.

One thing to try when you have time is to take out the two Xenon bulbs and swap them. If the problem is still on the Nearside then you know it isn't the bulbs. Then try swapping tha Ballasts, the problem should then occur on the offside...

Yeah, thought I would start with the lamp swap first, is the ballast easy to do, where is it?

Pull out the headlamp unit, there is a single wire running to a silver box below the headlamp,(a push on female spade) it is an earth connection.
This silver box is the ballast and massively expensive.
I would get an aftermarket one and modify and use instead.

Thanks Lez.

Thought the ballast was around that area, and I had heard that they are expensive too.

Oh well, Lamps first and then pray..
