I did the same richjt, although still depends on where you are, even with digital as to the amount of channels you can pick up, as in a car ark this morning I couldn't pick up one digital channel.

Based on year of manufacture of your car - think x555 state Sept 05???
And it is an extra - Comms Pack (and even that stated with or without TV option).

It is plug and play if you buy a BMW tuner - just swop the two and it should work. But be warned - its not as good as the analogue was in the car, if the signal isn't perfect you see.....expensive fuzz! It makes a difference where you park - even just a few metres - and its useless "on the move" if you have it enabled for kids / passenger to watch in the rear. The BMW tuners are around £600 or more and of course, everyone wants one right now with the switch over
and be careful about ebay tuners - loads of analogue useless tuners out there and people ready to do a sharp one on a "quick sale"

There's one on ebay at moment claiming to be genuine BMW & hybrid - not cheap but around 50% of claimed list price new.

Its unlikely to be anything else, really, aftermarket tuners really only started with E53s that only had analogue....when people wanted to install digital tuners and not pay BMW prices.....there is a thread with pics somewhere on here which will show you where the tuner is installed - just check
that out. Analogue tuners which show up on the dash screen display as the "TV" option are unlikely to be anything but OEM?????? Can't think why they'd be aftermarket - I don't think there was one which seamlessly integrated into the dash display system like the OEM one does, aftermarket tuners usually are accessed via the AV option.

My Dec'04 built (week 1 of 2005) E53 had a dual mode analogue/digital receiver. Production of them started in about Novmber 2004 if memory serves, but I can't remember which actual 'production week'.
It's the same as my X6, that was built in Week 40 last year (commenced 4th Oct) and has the clever combox controller system. A car made just one day earlier in Week 39 hasn't! It's that fine a line with these things.
