Steering Wheel Question

I'm looking to change my steering wheel and was wondering if any BMW wheel would fit - I quite like the chunky sports wheel in the Missus 125i, but I've also seen a few E90 sports wheels for sale in our local free ads.

Would I need the airbag as well or can I use the kit from my current wheel?

I have. I saw the DIY on Xoutpost with the M3 SMG wheel, and I've seen a couple for sale around R2500. An E90 wheel is a bit more modern though.

Are all the wheels standared fitment?

Most steering wheel rim changes will mean a change of airbag which often swells the cost disproportionately. I switched to a facelift wheel and airbag on an E53 without drama.

if you have a pre-facelift sports wheel, the e46 sports wheel (post 2001 I think) is chunkier but uses the same airbag. It also has those little noggins at 2 and 10 o'clock. Not a huge upgrade, but they can be sourced cheap and no need to change airbag.

Is that the one in your sig pic? If so, it looks like its the same as the e46 sport wheel, which is the same as the M3 wheel

The only difference between the M5 and the M3 steering wheel of that age is on the M5 the stitching is black and on the M3 it is tri-coloured (so I believe)

Do you mean the trim around the airbag? If so, the bottom bit is attached to the surround for the buttons too - and yes the whole lot can come off.

Yep I bought one from my local dealer to replace my worn old one rather than spray it.

The big advantage is the new ones are solid black plastic so don't look like they'll wear to that horrible white colour underneath like the old ones.
