Intravee

I've finally got around to buying an intravee to go with the KCA-420i that's been sitting around for ages and had a few questions I hoped someone could help with:

I'm going to be hooking it up to my old ipod mini and understand they drop into 'deep sleep' after a while. What's recommend as the best option to deal with this - as far as I can tell my options are running cables to the centre console so I can just give the ipod a nudge, getting the wake-up chip soldered onto the KCA board, or adding some sort of calendar alarms on the ipod?

Also, should I be worried about draining the X5 battery - I'm guessing the ipod will be constantly charging?

Finally, I've read somewhere about some extra features of the intravee (pdc display, door locking etc.) - how do I access these? Will they be dependent of the firmware version currently installed?

Really appreciate any advice anyone can offer.

I just run the cables to the center console as this is the easiest and cheapest way. The iPod sleeps if not used for a little while but if you use the car and the ipod everyday then u will almost never sleep. As for changing it will not flatten te battery as it only charges whilst the ignition is on.
Hope thy helps

I'm about to order an Intravee, just wanted to check something.

I use my iPhone as my iPod so will need to run cables to the centre console. What's the best way to do it? I'm guessing buy a long ainet cable and place the KCA420 up front? If so, what's the simplest cable route?

Also, it seems I need an adaptor in order to charge the iPhone, any links? I don't want a cradle, as my wife uses an iphone4 and I use a 3Gs (which will become a 5 when they release the bloody thing).

I put my KCA under the back seats and the wires that come with it are long enough to reach the center console.

Same here - under the rear seat bench and so much length if you get it under the carpet to the centre console.

Cheers, everything ordered.

Any particular problems I need to look out for with regards to trim removal etc? By under the back seat do I need to remove the base or is there access with the seat in situ?

Sorry for all the questions, I've fitted amps, headunits, additional gauges and such before so have some experience, just never on a BMW.

The rear base just pulls up and on the passenger side you will see a block of foam, I removed that and stuffed the KCA in there and then refitted the foam. As for running the cable I removed the 4 bolts holding the front passenger seat in place and tilted it forward.....this will give you room to get you hand under the carpet to feed the wire to the centre console.

Did you find the charging adapter for the iPhone? My Intravee / Alpine does not charge it as I just found out ...
