New E70 owner

Post by 40D » Fri Sep 09, 2011 5:32 pm

Hi all,

Just thought I'd log on and say hello!

Im New to the board, I get my 60 plate Xdrive40d msport in black next week and can't wait, should be a step up from my 120D!

I don't like the wheels on it though and giving serious thought to some aftermarket 22s. Does anyone have any suggestions (under about 2k all in?)

Cheers :)

Hi & welcome :)

Can't advise on 22's as don't run them.......or an E70 for that matter. My advise would be to avoid temptation of a big wheel & tyre packages with poor quality rubber fitted & also consider you may have a an agenda to remain moving in certain & more demanding conditions.

Wheels are ok, just not my cup of tea, would prefer some 21 OEMs or 22 aftermarket's

Hope you enjoy your new car,it sounds lovely.

I agree with you regarding the wheels, they are just missing something visually, good luck with what you decide.

Bet you cant wait.

@40D - I also think the standard M Sport 20s look great. I stuck with the 19s you currently have for comfort / to keep my wife on side, but visually would have liked the 20s. The ride is notably stiffer with the 20s compared to the 19s - so the 22s must be like the flintstones car ! It's a personal taste thing at the end of the day and may be fine for you though. Just worth noting - I picked up a few M sport owners with the 20s complaining about how hard the ride was, so make sure you go in with your eyes open.

@535dboy - good to see you back again. So what do you have cooking for 2012?!

@40d : Mjim is right, make sure you try one with 20s or above as the ride really is quite bouncy/tiring with big wheels and is one of the cars worst features. All of my UK cars are like this and I must be getting old (at 36!) but it is actually quite tiring now. It was nice wafting along in the States last week between my Navigator and the loan Towncar I had for a couple of days.

@Mjim : I placed an official order with Audi UK a couple of months back for the RS4. Hope to be hear around Sept/Oct next year. The Mrs we are still deliberating on but could be new RR Evoque, new Baby Jag convertible thing (whose name they keep changing), or possibly even a factory order Scirocco R. All of which would take until next year to arrive too with the respective launch and waiting lists.

Can't see why there would be any difference personally.

Get a ride in an E70 with 20s and sports suspension and then get a ride in the latest generation cayenne and RRS with the same wheels or bigger and then you will find out what bad is and yes the two competitors now handle as well if not better than the E70

Seriously? The ride on 22's is terrible in comparison to standard. I had some 22's which weighed the same as std 19s and the ride didn't seem too bad to begin with but once I had my front and rear suspension bushes changed, it was instantly noticeable that the ride was too hard and handling was terrible. Back to the 19s with the renewed suspension and drives like it was meant to and not a truck on low-pro's.

I guess the worn bushes gave extra damping so the effect of the 22s was not felt so much in the car

Could that not be down to the rfts on the e70 though?
