Ebay issue & might need a favour near Maidstone ?

Won an item off ebay for very low start price - No other bidders.

Due to size & weight of item it was listed as buyer collects.

As item 2hrs away I therefore ebay messaged seller & asked that if I won would the seller send the item, either by courier or post. Seller failed to stiplulayte dispatch method but agreed £20. Though not cheap I accepted on basis it would be viable if I won on a low bid. Though seller agreed this via ebay he/she failed to revise listing to show postage/courier cost/option(s). In hindsight I should have ensured the dispatch option was added to the listing before I placed my bid.

After auction ended & I used ebay to request final total, (for payment of 99p plus the agreed postage/courier cost), but ebay seller has not replied yet.

In event seller fails to respond I intend to pay for item only & request seller to contact me to agree collection by courier, myself or a 3rd party.

Aware I can request seller contact details from ebay if required though I suspect seller may hope I go away as the item won usually sells used for anything up to £50.

There may be legitimate reason for seller not contacting me but I am considering best option(s) to sort this.

As the fuel & time required to collect may be significant I was wondering if anyone on here lives in Maidstone could provisionally do me a big favour.....

If agreed with seller then please it would be a massive help if someone can collect for me. I can then get courier to collect from you on acceptable date, pay you for postage & packaging plus fuel or make other acceptable arrangement(s). This item can easily be carried by 1 person & placed in boot of a car.

Any potential volunteers queue here please.........Not holding my breath. I would not expect anyone to visit seller & demand won item & would only ask favour if seller agrees for item to be collected from him/her at a mutually agreeable time/date.

Sorry not near the South but a site like www.anyvan.com might be useful to arrange inexpensive collection and delivery........have used to good effect several times. In effect, trucks and vans across the country and indeed EU trips as well by van drivers and companies with empty returning vans. Some bargains on ebay with furniture and almost new white goods selling for little as "collection only" and a good price from a bidder on anyvan.

In effect, van drivers bid for your business and you decide who to accept at what price. Its quite innovative and it does work. if someone collected locally and you had it delivered via anyvan.com it might work out a bargain.

Re the seller selling at bargain price - I would pay the 99p and also send a message reminding them about the undertaking to send by courier and arrange to pay courier charge- its you who are paying after all - if they don't, you can of course open a dispute but they may claim the item isn't available as it is broken or stolen or something and simply refund the payment. You can leave negative feedback and report them to ebay but beyond that, its really a civil dispute about a failure to complete a contract and very difficult to successfully pursue, rather like property vendors who withdraw the property once you've paid for searches and solicitors and are very out of pocket - you can't force the issue or recover the money.

Thanks for reply. I had planned to pay the 99p if nothing else than to tie the seller down to the sale. If I lose 99p then it's not the end of the world.

All sorted now & paid for as prior agreed 99p plus £20 p&p. :)

Had to coach seller on amending an invoice but we got there in the end

Just need to wait for delivery now.
