before winter comes i want to give my bodywork a damn good polishing so its like glass, ive heard of these clay bars and wot not but have know idea what to but etc i normaly give her a polish every 2-3 weeks just with autoglim or something but now im after a megger shine?? please could someone advise me im not scared of abit of graft either if it gets the results!!

I always find detailing world has lots of useful info. I use the three step Meguiars from Halfrauds. I found as long as you keep the claybar lubricated you get some great results

I'm still looking for something to bring the bumper and trims up to a deep black though as back to black just doesn't cut it.

You will get some good responses from this post as I know the others OCD habits know no bounds!

Just done our E53 and because I have little experience if using the proper rotary polishers, and not wanting to 'burn' the paint, I use the Halfrauds 230V orbital polisher. Detailing World has lots of gen and suggestions, some if which will break your bank account!

My (probably sub-concourse) method is to clean the car thoroughly, make sure the bugs are removed too, dry it as thoroughly and then slap Autoglym Resin Polish on and then polish with a cotton bonnet before switching to a lambswool bonnet. It might take a couple of goes, but it doesn't wreck the paint and the car scrubs up nice.

A final treatment with Autoglym Extra Gloss puts the top protective layer on and I buff with a microfibre cloth. I'm happy with the final result.

The X6 has paint sealant on it so that only gets treated with Autoglym HD wax, with a pre-treatment where necessary. I'm looking forward to seeing it after its respray and professional machine polish to repair the defective paint.

might go for that as i have the halfords buffer (never used) and i got a 1ltr bottle of auto glim extra shine (black label polish stuff) the other week cos it was 1 ltr for £5 on offer (also un used), so its basically a normal quick polish repeated 3-4 times to build up the layers? thanks

On my cars i use this stuff now 'Diamondbrite Stage 1 & 2 125ml NEW 2011' you can find it on ebay ..... they are only small bottles but make your pride an joy shine really well. It's a pain using them as you have to apply stage one first in straight lines no circle motion. Before it drys put the stage 2 on over the stage 1 once it has dried polish of.
It's a bit of a pain as you can only do small areas at a time but for me personally I find it a great shine........... Before i use to be a fan of autoglym polish....... As its fairly cheap might be worth a try.........
