No mention of UK cars being affected at this early stage


"BMW announces a worldwide recall due to problems with fuel filters for around 120,000 cars with diesel engines. A spokesman for BMW Group says the recall applies to 1, 5 and 7 Series, as well as X3, X5 and X6 vehicles .The vehicles affected are those built between October 2008 and June 2009. In Germany, 35, 000 cars are affected, and significant less in the U.S. due to the lack of enthusiasm for diesel vehicles across the ocean.The problem lays within the heating of the diesel filter. Apparently, a faulty plug leading to the heater continues to run the diesel filter, even after switching off the ignition, which can, in extreme cases, lead to a fire"

The fount of knowledge for UK Recalls - at least the notified ones - is VOSA (http://www.vosa.gove.uk).

......that is not to say that BMW should really be doing a UK recall and haven't, or it's not yet got that far. Probably worth printing the info from AW8's links above and waving it under your Dealer's nose. It would not be the first time a manufacturer has recalled everywhere else but the UK as the number of affected vehicles is 'too low' and our requirements far less stringent.

I love the comment about 'lack of enthusiasm for diesels'. . From what I've read over the years, it's not a lack of enthusiasm as much as lack of decent, 'clean' diesel, lack of availability due to different states having different emission regs making homologation extremely expensive (no 40d in the US), oh and the engine is the wrong shape and is missing two cylinders
