Hey peeps, it's been a while and seeing how my original newbie pics never worked, i've just found a bunch on my Blackberry so thought i'd upload them to photobucket and load them on here for your pleasure :D (although i'm the worlds worst photographer, AND it's a Blackberry................ oh, I’ve stuck some previous cars too)

here's the beast: (averaging 17.9mpg btw, which is about the same as my 8)

And this is why i got rid of the gravel!!

That's a nice collection you've got/had.

That's not bad mpg on your 4.4. I'm on LPG and my equivalent mpg (based on cost of petrol per litre vs what I actually spend on lpg) is 24 for the last 200 miles but that has been about 150 miles of inner city short trips.

Great pics - thanks for sharing.

My X5 has cost me a couple of quid or so to keep running as it should. .......It's ironic I prior dismissed E39 M5 ownership due to potential maintenance costs

E38 facelift looks good - I like the throwing star alloys but am ware the grill isn't to liking of everyone.

Signature indicates yet more BMW's & host of other stuff in past........Motor Trader by chance ?

Thanks mobilejo, that mpg is actually round the doors and with a lead foot, so not too bad at all. I've found if i try to drive 'very' sensibly it eventually ends up at around 18mpg, and if i drive it like i stole it i get 16.5ish, so i might as well drive it like i feel like, it wont make a difference to me. Plus i drive less than 2000 miles a year usually so I can live the mpg.

AW8, thanks also. The E39 M5 had no problems, except needing a new sump due to stripping the threads when a BMW specialist did the oil change. now i would have got it helicoiled, but then he told me the price of a brand new alloy sump from BMW was £200....... so it got a new one. Oh, and it never liked the 20" Continental Tyres either, 3 in 3 months!
This pic is the same one tyre, but all 3 did the same thing.

The blue 5 series is an E34, and I know what you mean about the grills, it tended to be at the time the people who owned the early E34 (I has 3 pre-facelifts) didn't like the new one, but I prefer the wide grilled facelift. I actually had the opportunity to buy that car back earlier this year after parting with it about 10 years ago. The same owner had it all this time.

no, I'm not a trader, but I like my cars and i'm also an impulsive purchaser. And ebay is my friend most of the time! I work overseas so if i get in late after a few beers I tend to get carried away :O as per my first post on this site, I also bought this X via ebay one drunken night. (I had been watching it and asking questions, HPi checking etc etc... but the 'drunken night' when it was finishing is when i actually bid for it :) )

Now I remember your 1st post.

Those tyre pics have put me off ever buying conti's.

After a sump for the Z3 at the moment though Z3 6 cylinder sumps costs nearer £400 with the dreaded vat.......hence I am shopping for a decent salvaged one.

I would love to be able to buy & sell cars on impulse........If I had bought your exact E39 M5 I may have spent less on maintenance than I have with my X5. I could have used the equivalent saving to have bought & sold a few toys along the way too. It's quite amazing how E53 maintenance costs can vary so much between owners of what are essentially same cars of similar age(s) & mileage(s) & with history to verify the later & lack of neglect.
