Radio - CD Cuts out

So i have just upgraded my Nav system to a MK4 DVD system from the one of the very first CD systems... Its soooo much better..

However I have a problem where i lose sound both within Radio and CD mode. The NAV works fine. it can last anything from a minute or so to 15 minutes. I power cycle the unit and that normally fixes it.

This has nothing to do with the upgrade as it did the same before on the old NAV system....

When i fitted the MK4, i had to re-use another silver box (as in pic below) i have over the top of the NAV box, this has a black connector and the aerial connector.
When i first fitted it i used the 2 connectors on the back of the MK4 and plugged the aerail into the MK4... all fine but no sound from either Radio or CD... but NAV worked

Sorry for the blurry pic... crappy Blackberry

So its now wired with all plugs fitted, red, blue and black and the aerial into this silver box.... and works great!!

My question is..... What is it? I guess this could be faulty and the cause of my intermittent sound issues...

All help most grateful....

So this is really doing my head in now.... I have read that it can be the radio module that can do this.... is this true and that it can be put in the oven?????? I"ve also found companies that repair these.... surely someone else has had this issue??

On a trip today it was on off on off all the way there... a simple power cycle normally fixes it, however sometimes it can take up to 20 minutes for the sound to come back on both CD and Radio..... On the way back it was fine for 80% of the journey... it seems to be when we hit a bump etc......

Can anyone else shed some more light on this issue?

Cheers

Being lazy here, what year is the car? We then know what unit you have in the car - it will most likely be the BM54 or Radio Control Module (RCM).

As AW8 has mentioned, there are two sources that can sort this for sub £200. What you mention of putting it in the oven is IF you have the old BM24. Reckon you don't (unless the MK4 SatNav unit is a retro-fit). BM54's cannot be fixed in this way...

Sanj..... It's a 2000 model with Mk4 retro fit... So I take it I have the "oven" model then?

Send it to ebay seller sound-secure ..........Mr Ali top bloke

Phone: 07501 312152
Email: ali-gb@live.com

I used him to try to fix my BM54 but master chip had melted, he did however sort me with an exchange recon unit for sensible money.

I trust this guy.

Sorry Greg,

Stupid iPhones with their auto-correct feature!

Yes, take the unit out - in the boot under the floor, spare wheel, compressor and the black plastic around the battery. Get that off and you will see the module on the left (the connector is circled in red). That will come out if you undo the nut just next to it and then pull it out between the plastic and the battery gap.

And then you can use the same guy AW8 mentions (and has used) to do the fixing. Call him first though!

But as said before and if you're good with a soldering iron a 10 to 20 minute job to DIY. Just go over as many solder joins as you can.
