hello everyone
i am in contact with one of the dealerships in stateside to get skid plate ordered so if anyone would like one without worrying about import tax pm me. i think i can order several at one time. once i get the exact cost i will let you know but it should not be over 150 quid to be delivered to your home.i've ordered one for a friend on this forum and made it here with no problems and total was around 135 quid to his door but since i am going to order a couple i am expecting a price hike because of the package size ..so let me know if anyone is interested this way i can give them a number to calculate.cheers

Is it an easy fit and does it need painting?

It's an easy fit. Mine is on with self tappers.

Painted the same colour as the car - worth it? Matter of opinion - just don't ask the wife/GF....

Here's mine:

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=65&p=333&hilit=skid#p333

Comes primered ready to paint, should be done pro for a proper finish.

Easy to fit but I used bolts through the front bumper and nuts on the other side (meant bumper had to come off) for the security after hearing of one flying off a car on the motorway.

Painting was not a huge problem either, especially as its under the car and the finish is very hard to see when its fitted.

Only fits the standard bumper - not the 'is' models :(

:( I do like skid plates / bull bars etc and all my 4x4s were modded with them till the X. Stupid PC world we live in these days about not having them because they "hurt" pedestrians - what on earth are pedestrians doing in front of a car travelling legitimately at 70MPH on the road anyway? Do they expect you to roll out a double bed and pillows on the bonnet   I don't go extreme offroading anymore but it would be nice to have a skid plate regardless. Oh well. Those who can, take the opportunity!!!!!

I'd love to see an X5 with the underrid carriage bars, skid plate/4.6/4.8 front AND bull bar! That would be quite menacing.

How does the bull bar attach anyway? Looks like you need to make holes in the front bumper?

All are available in the US. Have a look on Realoem, but select US market instead of Europe, and there's all sorts of options. I think the front bull bar assembky will interfere with the PDC, but then if you have bull bars - so what :D

12/2004 3.0i US Spec......

Exactly - you'd know when you're in snugly when the other object gets nudged out of the way. Perfect for when my wife is driving to protect the X, but it'd be BAAAAD news for any nearby cars

I did look at all these options for my 4.8is. Skid plates not applicable but seriously love the look of the underride protection bars BUT a lot of money.
