MOT expired on sunday and as Vines was doing half price MOT, I booked it in with them at the earliest date of the 25th of July.

Oh well, small price to pay in order to get it cheap :)

Hmm, could have used that yesterday when I had to get rid of 6 beds that someone dumped in my woods, including side tables and even a shed. Council cleared it up for me in hours, very impressed.

Well, I did put it over my fence back on the other side near the road though and dropped them an email :)

Hmm.......Cheap test price can be counter productive if the tester takes the mickey.

Then again mickey taking testers are often reluctant to inappropriately fail or advise if they know owner(s) are clues up.

I have no doubt you know your car well ;)

It is Vines, so would have gone there anyway. Just now it is cheaper.

As always, they will moan about the surface rust on the discs and as always, I will ignore that ...

As I have mentioned before I always get my cars tested making sure tester knows they wont get work on back of any fail or advisories...........if nothing else it leaves them less motivated to be over zealous.

Brake discs cant be failed unless major defect such as cracking & assuming they work fine.

Thanks for sharing link but I think he said he's already booked it ;)

Given toss of coin between bmw dealer (not dealer using a contracted out local garage), & Halfords I think I'd take a gamble & head for the dealership.

No reason & probably based on my prejudice from Halfords staff I have met front of house.

Its a mot not a service what difference does it make who does it? I am sure all test centre works to the exact same vosa required standard.

Frankly I do think it makes a difference who does it. I got caught out once but did get a refund from Mr Clutch. Now I always go to the council run testing station with no vested interest :-)

The dealer does a pre-inspection, so if there are any potential failures I would rather have that fixed prior to them doing the MOT. If going to a third party and it fails, I would have to pay a retest again and any work I would have done at a BMW dealer anyway.

I think I am notorious at the dealer anyway, well, they all run out of the backdoor when I walk in for some reason ... It is rare I ever pay the first invoice they present me :)

Not convinced of this & Penny's example highlights potential pitfalls, however, I wont labour the point will happily agree to disagree re this point.
