How can I take pictures like this of my car ???

Is it not just HDR photography were 3 images of different exposure are merged together to produce the effect.

looks like it's the kind of lighting that's used to light the cars. Think it's called light painting in photography terms.

its being lit with multiple studio strobes or speedlights, you can see the reflection of the main softbox (which is pretty high over the car) in the front and rear screens. The shadows around the car have been burnt in with PS, its all not that hard to do given the time, you can make anything look good with the right lighting (and these are nicely done).

First thing to do is get yours out into the sun and take the pic with the sun lighting up the side of the car your photographing, try and do it an hour or so before the sun goes down. Find an open space or decent backdrop and get down to waist height or below to take the shot...

example of what is easy enough to do with plain daylight - took this on the way home from Exeter one day, just before I sold the car...

Umbrella flash helps, and Photoshop. You can also use floodlights and add a blue filter on the camera, or lamp to make the yellow tint (colour temperature) of the tungsten lamp whiter. You need an 80A filter - some software including photoshop can do it in post-processing.

Multi flash is another way if you have camera flashguns that have a remote trigger function and you can fire them in sequence. An alternatve way that works in the dark with a bit of trial and error is to put the camera on a tripod, put it on a long exposure and paint the light in by carrying a flashgun in your hand with a softbox attached, keeping out of shot and firing it as you move around the car. You can get some interesting effects.

Trouble is, if you get bitten by the photo bug it can get seriously expensive

if you want to try painting with light easiest option is to stick the camera on a tripod and use a decent LED torch (like the Lenser P7), much easier to control.

tell me about it, I'm a professional tog and should be processing a clients images, not surfing cos I'm all excited about my new X5!

HDR is really handy for hiding average pics Hide Drastic Results.
