Tractor arrived

Well, on friday afternoon the tractor arrived so work was sort of abandoned :)

Spent the rest of friday harrowing the field, and part of saturday before cutting it.

Fuel consumption - wow ... it cost me £75 in diesel to harrow and cut the field, i.e. 10 hours of work. Certainly not cheap!

Health and Safety features are funny ... seatbelt is in there as well as a reverse beeper, was not expecting that.

The 2.2 litre Perkins diesel engine is nice, pulls anything (including through the handbrake which the delivery company had put on and I had not noticed  ). Hydraulics and lift fun to play with, halogen lights very effective as I was working in the dark in the end.

Got quite sore in the end because of the bouncing about (even though the seat has massive suspension features).

That looks like a lot of fun and worth every penny of the fuel bill to get out of the house away from work and the family to have a play in the field!! Does it have a radio / cd player? Need some forward and rear facing flood lights too on the roll bar for a bit of extra light when the nights start to draw in quickly.

Shame you aren't looking for a dog at the moment! I'm working more and more abroad and have been looking for a good home for my two soft dobermans - separated though - would not re-home together.
A field like that is exactly what they need to run around in every day!

Turks.

Was that 'white' or 'red' diesel? If it's agricultural can't you put 'red' in it? I can't remeber the finer points on the regs now, but I remember our tractor had red in it as it never went on the road, or at least if it did it was very rare and not very far.

Tractors are not known for their economy - the big MF we had probably only did about 5mpg, but the torque was massive!!

White diesel, have not been able to locate a supplier of red diesel yet except for bulk deliveries (i.e. no pump). Nearest one is about 30 minutes drive which sort of defeats the object.

5mpg would be good as I have probably only done a couple of miles up and down ...

Hmm yes, must get hifi sorted as 10 hours on a tractor is rather, uh, dull.

Secondly, I have been looking at tipper buckets for the back to move wood about, I am sure I "need" that as well.

Guess I should have been doing some work today as well ...

Glad you aren't in denial & accept you should have been doing some work :)

I am sure your son will be volunteering to help.

If overtime dries up I will be in touch for a part time summer job........( awaits dry reply ;) )

AW8 - It is just the type of job for you, basically staring ahead of you, brain to zero and not doing anything productive.

... just like your day job :poke:

First mod - yellow flashy beacons to make you look important..... :driving: 8-)

Or even a lightbar with a 100W speaker (normally for the siren) to plug your ipod into. Should be able to hear it then over the rattly Perkins engine..........only teasing. :D. And a set of HID worklights built in too.

Add a spare 4.8 V8 and you could go tractor pulling with the added advantage that it'll get around the field much faster. The fuel bill will still suck, so no change there, but the 'Fun Factor' will increase exponentially :D :D
