Hi
I am a newbie,, so am truly sorry if this is an old topic, but I'm at my wits end literally. Last week some thieving so and so's decide to steal both my electric folding side mirrors off my E53, what I didn't realise is that how hard it is to come by a replacement pair. I am literally close to having a nervous breakdown, cant go through insurance as they have already increased my premium and excess for something that happened to my old car 3 years ago, its a no win situation unfortunately, I love my car , have looked after it since I bought it last year, and do not want to sell it but may not have a choice, it is a 53 plate. Can anyone please put me in the direction of getting replacements at a reasonable price, my work as well as my health are both being affected, at the moment the only place I have been able to get a pair is from Dubai, and then I'm not sure if they are electric folding or not. But if I can get them from anywhere in the UK it would be so much easier. Please if anyone can help me I would be extremely gratful, and alo advise on how to secure the replacements once I have them to stop them being swiped again.

Thanks

Amer

B@stids!! Dealer prices will be VERY scary I have no doubt!!

Best bet is to use Google to find a BMW Breaker's site who hold them as spares. There are various different types with and without dimming mirrors. At this stage it won't matter about the colour.

You could try here: http://www.partsgateway.co.uk/presults/ ... lctCar=bmw

I'm not sure there is a way of securing them without some kind of special bolts that require special tools.

If you need to find the right part numbers, go to RealOEM and input the last 7 characters of your VIN.

Just try to relax, everything can be sorted with a bit of work, dont let it affect your life.

Have you tried search on ebay for people breaking X5s? I seem to find 6-7 all the time that are being sold that you can email and ask.

The other thing you can do is look here:

http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/list.asp?s=337

Or you can look here:

http://www.carsparefinder.co.uk/

http://www.247spares.co.uk/partrequest

http://www.247spares.co.uk/bmw

http://www.bmspares.co.uk/

The other option is this, but you will have to buy them new if they stock them, but they usually sell parts at a lower price than main dealers:

http://www.gsfcarparts.com/

All of the above is where I look for parts for any of my cars, They usually have them.

Good luck with the search. Cheers

Alex

Unfortunately he's not that is the ridiculous price dealers are charging for parts for a 4-11 yr old car, it is obscene!

Hi Mate,

I've been looking on fleabay for some wheels and saw these:
http://cgi.ebay.ie/BMW-X5-E53-19-ALLOY- ... 4cf746309e

I know you're not looking for wheels but the ad says that they are breaking an X5, maybe contact the seller? might have mirrors too?

Cheers,

~Shaun.

That glass has some gell in it which is why it is so much more expensive. Seems odd to have to almost have to claim on your insurance for a replacement mirror glass :)

It was the mirror, the back cover, the back housing, and the mirror chassis including the motor. Cost came to £1200.

Sorry, yes - I knew that, just commenting on the glass price of £350 alone.

Feel for you - really do.

All the other posts will help you source some - I got mine off eBay about 2 years go, when the prices were very reasonable.

Got to ask, how the hell did they get them off??? These are supposed to be once piece and bolted from the inside of the door by three heavy duty screws, which you can't get to unless you remove the door cards????

Did they leave you with the gloss black triangular piece still stick to the door and just take them from the hinge point, where the motor sits?

eBay will be good to try, plus you might find your old one's on there!

Above all else, DO NOT let it affect your health, we'll do all we can to help you. I'll even fit em for you FOC, if you get some.

£1200!! A side!! Holy Sh!t. No wonder they're getting nicked!! Probably the same reason my wife had the complete front bumper of her E46 stolen from outside our front door. We never heard a thing!!

A dozen trim screws, two bolts, cut the fog light wires and away!! All we found was the number plate - with some nice fingerprints on it!!

The BMW Body shop knew all about this as it's a very common occurrence. BMW were even approached by a number of parties to provide security bolts, but they would not play.

That is extremely kind of you sanj..if i could get some I may take you up on that, but they have left the triangular pieces still in there place , unbolted them and and cleanly cut the cables. BMW are horrid they know that there is a security issue, and refuse to help in anyway

Firstly welcome aboard.

Secondly take a deep breath. It really is no worth getting stressed over as that's what were all here for.

£1200 is a joke. So can you tell me what model you have and more importantly were they dimming, folding, etc.

I paid £370 all in through my contact at one of the BMW dealers round my way, for each side unit as I replaced them both (that is the actual mirror itself, so not including glass or back cover or gloss black trim).

Give me the details and I'll make a quick call.

Hope that helps.

Raj
