Morning
I'm having an oil change done and was recommended to use Castrol EDGE 5W-40 Turbo Diesel (Titanium FST) due to the high mileage.
They said it's thicker and will coat the engine better.
I said it's not LL04 and they said the 5W-40: This is the thickness your high-mileage engine needs to seal the rings and quiet the chain. It is ACEA C3: This guarantees it is safe for your DPF.
Any thoughts?

If it’s not LL04 then you must change it every 10,000 miles. It sounds fine other than that. ACEA C3 is what LL04 is approved with. On a high mileage car it probably makes sense to do more frequent changes anyway. If it’s an N57 series engine then it’s a ‘MUST’ to avoid, or at least reduce, timing chain breakage risks

You don't need a different oil for hgh mileage , mine has 177k now( m57 x5sd ) and is using virtually no oil , if the chain is rattling you need to bite the bullet and get t sorted before it jumps or breaks and trashes your engine . The amount of n57 engined x5s for sale this last while with blown motors is huge , was just talking to my neighbour yesterday and his friend's 2015 one had to get a new crank recently due to it knocking its bearings out , a very common issue now . Imo if I had one id be changing the oil every 5k and / or get a warranty

Mine has just ticked over the 200k m57 e53 x5.
5w30 ll04 is what it has had all it's life and don't use a drop.
12 monthly oil changes or 7k for mine.
