Updated SatNav disc required - Questions

Post by Giblets » Sun May 15, 2011 8:26 pm

Hi all.

My recent purchase is still running an ancient 2003 Nav disc.

What are my options to get a sensibly priced up to date version?

Looking on ebay I'm not confident that the post 2007 discs will work on the E53's system?

Is 2006 as good as it will get or are there other options?

Many thanks.

BMW release new map discs twice a year so the current one for you is 2011-1, and yes there is one for your car. There are currently no plans to stop updates for the MkIV DVD based systems. Currently they cost £175 a pop which is outrageous. The ones for my X6 are even worse! Part of the extra cost is the TMC licence and the Navteq Mapping Data Licence.

For info, discussion of anything other than the official BMW release discs on this forum is actively discouraged for legal reasons as the discs are not OEM Approved and therefore illegal - which is why they're cheap :D. You can't blame the site owners/mods for this policy as they are ultimately accountable.

No, I do not think it will work on your system, has your sat nav in boot have '' DVD'' on it, if so it is the mk 4 system.

Thanks. I'd gone down the euro sat nav route and disk arrived today. Will give it a test soon!

For the record all appears to be well with the euro sat nav solution, plus I get a nice new start up screen!

Thanks for the recommendation X5-MK

Have you set the aspect up? Looks good when you do.

Make sure also that you learn and remember the 7 digit postcode entry procedure, as if you don't, like I didn't, it will take you an age to figure it out, by which time you could have bought an atlas and street map and found it yourself :-o
