Post by Dave willow » Tue Mar 11, 2025 11:32 am

Hi what change would have to do the engine to disconnect adbule system. Engine is N57 3.0D E70 lci. Just bought a diagnostic reader main tank sensor not working , I understand that you have buy a new tank as the sensor can not be changed. The new tank is over a grand to buy.

When did the E70 get AdBlue? I thought that evil only landed with the F15 model….or do you have an F15? There are also pumps and sensors on the engine itself and possibly the DPF (which might be damaged if the SCR system is removed?). Probably best to have a look at Realoem and see what hardware is connected with the system and work from there.

It’s coded into the emissions system. No idea what you would have to play around with. You’ll need INPA/ISTA at the very least to dig in that deep. Might be possible with something like BimmerUtility too. Technically it makes the car illegal to use and would likely invalidate your insurance should a ‘worst case’ event happen and the car gets closely examined (unlikely though that may be).

I’ve only had two vehicles with AdBlue and neither would even start if the system detected an issue with the system. My 2-er Gran Tourer had to have a sensor replaced under warranty but I never got to see how much got changed.

Hi X Sport, this is a 2012 lci jap import wish we had never bought it with the money we paid for it and the cost of repairs. I wish we had kept our old e53 and spent the money on that. Apparently the land of the rising sun had ablue from 2011 on x5s .what you are saying the car shouldn't run with out it . I filled both tanks when we got it all it did was blow out all over the place. So had wash all the engine compartment down.
Have been running it now for a year wit empty tanks. So the previous owner must had something
done to it . Not able contact him disappeared.
The engine is great go like shit off shovel. But other parts not so good

Sounds like it’s been disabled already. If there’s no warning light then no one will know. If it’s not required for the UK, does it need to work?

If there are no warning lights it should pass mot , another thing designed to break with non replaceable sensors and a silly new part cost.
Mappers removing it often have to knock a hole in the dpf on most cars the x5 may be different I don't know.if the car I'd otherwise OK just leave it as is , after all this time it's not likely to work again the way that stuff crystallises out.
