Transmission code 07EC on x5 sd e70

Post by Leslie » Mon Mar 10, 2025 6:09 pm

I'm getting this code from my foxwell 520 scanner for the transmission (6 speed ) on my twin turbo sd (35d) , under full acceleration its revving out to 5k and sitting there instead of changing up and acceleration runs out completely like I'm suck in that gear or the gearbox is slipping and not able to put the power down , if I lift of it will eventually change in a few seconds. It can run out of puff before 70 mph but sit at 5k revs despite my foot deep in the carpet  No nasty noises and when driving sedately it runs fine at the minute.
Car is on 173,000 miles now and never to my knowledge had a gearbox oil change certainly not in last 40k in my ownership. I had it out in sport mode today and it is changing gears fine that way after clearing the code . My go to mechanic is off sick and not likely to be back anytime soon if at all so not sure what to do given the cars age and low value now .
Just wondering if anybody else has had that code ? as I'm not getting much on a basic search so far.

The only reference to that code I can find refers to dirty O2 sensors as the readings are too low. Could be a bad MAF and if you have a DPF will prevent a regen until fixed. Someone in XOutpost had the 07EC code and a replacement MAF fixed it.

Bing also found these:
Broken/faulty oil separator in the valve cover
Air leaks downstream of the MAF
Exhaust leaks upstream of the rear O2 sensors.

May also bring up 07E8.

Cheers  I didn't find.much yet , its supposed to be an actual bmw code but its listed in the gearbox alarms , I watched the maf airflow on live date and its rising nicely .I did wonder was the big turbo not kicking in and the small one is running out of puff at high rpm..codes cleared now and seems to coincide with a failing battery good one fitted now .

Blasted cars and their batteries! BMWs seem to have issues with anything that isn’t perfect.

It maybe just pure coincidence that's when it started but worth mentioning , Id did find reference to a worn solenoid block for the code but given the likely cost and hassle id be better cutting my losses and getting something else what with high road tax to pay , my daughter looking a smaller car to learn on and the age and mileage of this one.

Well I somehow missed code P14A7 engine code due to focusing on hhe gearbox which is dpf differential pressure too high , too many short runs this last while so will get a good 20 miler at a moderate rev in tomorrow before it blocks up completely :driving:

I don't think it is the rev's as much as the trip.
I take my other car on a run once a month if it has been doing short runs.
I drive 15/20 minutes outbound then return and when checking the dpf levels it looks to be enough.

Trouble is I am often stuck on a single carriageway at about 38 mph otherwise that would be fine :driving:

Put the auto into manual and drop it a couple of gears to keep the revs up. I put mine in Sport to keep around 2,000rpm, but only after the engine has warmed up as I don’t think it’s kind to engine or turbos when they’re both cold.

Exactly as I do :driving: , did that today as the rolling roadblocks were out in force with it being Friday and single lane main roads so no passing , 5 warmup , 10 in sport and 5 easy and same on wayback but with much less traffic and in 4th gear when you step on it it really picks up instantly and takes off like it used to , certainly not holding back today and when I got home no more codes have logged so far . It does feel like its gained 100 hp from last week when it was sluggish as hell and didn't want to go over 70 . Shall see how it goes unless it was stuck in limp mode with a partially blocked dpf its probably not fixed  There were no warning lights on the dash last week either :?
