I believe this has been discussed before? Is there a reliable source for this information, free would be even better.
I am aware of checks from vins, but i dont have that just yet.

You need the full 17 character VIN rather than the VRN.

A BMW Dealership might work from the VRN but they charge for it. Sorry

I'm looking at the car tomoro so can get the vin then. I was trying to get ahead of my visit. Its a 230bhp single turbo which I'm sure will be very different to the twin turbo I'm used to. That said its to replace a 174 bhp Touareg so will hopefully be good and an improvement in its own way

Oh well, this turned out to be an irrellivant question.
The car was a 2008 3.0l on 122k miles. It was in fair condition but the dealer flatly refused to adjust his price on any grounds. Overall the car was grubby, their emphasis was on no warranty of any kind. One issue was the interior driving mirror, it was in permanent auto dip mode. It made seeing what was behind quite difficult. I suspect they're not inexpensive to replace so i walked.
