I have a rubbing noise that is very noticeable when driving along the side of fences and hedges etc.

Wheels are not particularly hot.

Any ideas / what should I check?

Sticking caliper maybe??

Reflections can make things sound awful whilst there is nothing wrong. Rubber noise on the road, wind through the calipers etc could make it sound like that.

I would second that, sounds like a brake pad is just kissing a disc

Will check this out thanks chaps. My brakes have felt a bit inconsistent and grabby so may be that.

I checked the discs too and they look a bit worn. Might chuck some new ones on while the wheels are off.

can you hear the noise after a certain speed? wheel bearing?

Check the protector plate on the rear disks, they sometimes touch slightly, I get this with mine, just stick a long screwdriver through the spokes on the wheel and push it back a little, see if it helps.

thanks - rear disc looks a bit knacked and and fronts don't look much better. Do all the pistons just push back in the calipers? Anything special to consider in changing them?

or any decent flat discs?

The pistons will pull back a touch, but there are occasions when a piston can stick which is when you get issues of noise and overheating of the pad/disc.
