I thought I posted this, not sure if it did.
2009 X5 E70 adaptive headlight fault.
Scanner says bad communication between footwell module and left and right headlights.
I don't want to throw parts at this. Why can't the fault be located exactly.
All components inspected for water, corrosion.
All look good.
Thoughts?

No they do not, hence the fault.

I dont know tbe answer but if there is no comunication that module has likely failed otherwise it would be able to tell you whats wrong.if it was s light issue it would be unlikely to be in both lights .
If its a cheap scanner though it may simply not be good enough to scan that module .

The module uses the LIN bus and CAN bus to communicate with various other modules, including lighting. If the wiring is all intact then it points towards a module failure.
