Clutch issues 2.0d

Post by Ozzycat » Wed Sep 18, 2024 9:45 am

Morning all. Been having some issues lately where there was feedback from the clutch pedal when it was fully pressed in that there was a vibration in the pedal and a stuttering noise. Car still changed gear ok, drove fine and no evidence of clutch slipping. Today the wife was out in the car and now it won't change gear with clutch pressed in and engine running and there is a burnt smell which I assume is the clutch. She was stuck behind a bin lorry in a narrow street close to home when this happened and managed to get home.
What do I need to check or has the clutch just given up and is this a DIY job if you have the tools available. Anyone done this themselves and is there a guide online somewhere?
Thanks

The only guide I know of would be if you can find a copy of the BMW TIS (Technical Instruction System) on line. Not hugely expensive (around £10) and on CD-ROM or DVD.

There are usually special tools needed (but than can be got around in many cases) and if your car has a dual-mass flywheel then that also needs replacing. It’s not for the faint hearted, but if you’re handy with tools then achievable.
:ant: Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
