Morning
I have BMW 1.4.0 on an old Win 7 Laptop I also have BMW INPA/ISTA on the same lap top either give me full Dealer level access, Today there are several others that will allow service functions like ABS activation iCarsoft, Carly, Foxwell, Autel to name a few. I have used iCarsoft and it is easy to use and good for just about all models, others here have Foxwell and find it very good

BMW 1.4.0 is I think the easiest to use and cheap at around £25. I have changed several control modules on my E53 4.6 ( FCM BMW Dealer said can;t be done unless it is a New Module programmed by them. Second hand from Quarry fitted and registered to the chassis as an example) plus carried out plenty of service work.
BMW INPA/ISTA is very powerful but takes some time to learn, cost me £90 some time ago but allows access to all models up to current models
Hope this helps

Hi, from what you have mentioned the BMW 1.4.0 is the most cost effective and cheapest tool to get the ABS bleeding done on my vehicle. Although this unit, I assume will only carry out the diagnostics etc on BMW vehicles only, is this correct?
I am interested in the BMW 1.4.0 because of how cheap it can be purchased, but then on the other hand, having a universal diagnostic scanner would be a better investment so fault finding, code clearing etc etc could be carried out.

So l'm looking for a unit that would carry out some diagnostic work and the ABS bleeding procedure on my X5, but some diagnostic scanner's state that they carry out the "ABS bleeding" but then you find out that not all manufacturers makes and models are accessible, thus your no able to carry out the jobs in hand. As I potter with other vehicles a universal diagnostic scanner would be more beneficial to me and so this is why I need more Info. from anyone who can point me in the right direction
Many thanks

Hi
You are correct BMW 1.4.0 is specific. The more expensive Foxwell and Autel systems are multi vehicle capable but I have never owned those systems or tried them (I have Mercedes Star and Volvo diagnostics on my old laptop as well)
My neighbour has an iCarsoft scanner which works really well but I believe it is a BMW dedicated version I can ask him tonight if it is of interest?
For your E53 BMW 1.4.0 is the one I would choose and the easiest to get going with
Good Luck

I'd be very surprised if something costing 25 quid could bleed abs usually at that price its generic code reading only and virtually useless, ut happy to be proved wrong though

It certainly will Leslie
Don't believe me Google will tell you more, there are several videos on how to load and use it for diagnostics and coding
Do remember this program is for early BMW models up to around 2005/6 I have used it on 3 E53's I have owned (2 x4.4 and 1 4.6is) I use INPA/ISTA on my E70

That BMW 1.4.0 will do some coding as well but it only works on the older car's.
I managed to code a second hand set of clocks in with it some years back.
Does a lot for the price still got mine some ware.

Last evening I spoke with my neighbour who has iCarsoft
It will indeed activate the ABS Pump we plugged it in and tried it on his 330i and my X5 E70
It is iCarsoft V2 for BMW so specific, hope this is of some use

I have an old Foxwell the 644, not sure if they make it any more, over 10 years old it does any and all cars including makes I’ve never heard of. Very robust. It does activate the abs pump on the 4.6is. My son has a Foxwell (can’t remember the model number) bought reasonably cheap and you go on the Foxwell website if you want to add another make of car. He loans it to his mates for whatever it costs to download the vehicle manufacturer they have.
