£415 to tax the x for a year. I’ll have to stop whining about insurance companies ripping me off and transfer my annoyance to the government. 20% more to tax than insure

X6 = £271 fully comp. Tax is £190 I think. i4 = £1700 FC “coz it’s an EV” (but no Tax until next April then it’s the same as the X6). No wonder people are thinking harder about going electric.

Doh! Make that £385 (Typo was 335). Read the wrong line in the last VED reminder. I knew you folks would set me straight…..

The 40d is more ecomonolic in theory and on official tests due to 8 speed auto id guess , although negligible in the real world .

We all know, as we're common sense people, that VED is fundamentally flawed. The only fair way, with ICE anyway, is tax on fuel purchased /consumed. It is and always has been ludicrous to tax vehicle types rather than their on the road time they use. Parked up as mine frequently is, its beyond frustrating i pay the same as a daily user of the same vehicle type.

40D has the N57 engine which has lower emissions (EU5) as well as the ZF 8sp. All of which combines to ‘just’ bring it into the slightly lower tax band below 200g/km. Later versions (F16 and beyond) are all EU6 and its sub groups.
I’ve never been convinced that there is much of a difference in economy between the 30sd/35d and 40d, just more power/torque.
