No it's not my X5..
We recently bought an Audi Q7 4.2tdi for the wife from a dealer. It's still under warranty but I fancied picking the brains on here.
All driving fine no problem until yesterday when I parked on the drive and I noticed oil coming from both tailpipes.. Not good. Upon lifting off the engine cover I was also greeted by the engine covered in oil. At the time there was no indication of anything wrong so I restarted it and after a few seconds the eml came on and a curly wire type light which I think maybe a glow plug light. It also started to run lumpy indicating a miss fire.
I called the dealer where we purchased it and he said get it to a garage for diagnosis and we can take it from there.
What do you think? I'm not sure I want to drive it.
I'm not a expert on Tdi engines but it seems pretty terminal to me with oil coming from the tailpipes. Something has let go and the oil has decided it doesn't want to stay around.
We have only had it a month so could we just reject the car for a refund to save any agro? I have a feeling the dealer has to attempt repairs forts though which is only going to drag on.

Send it back asap.
Don't no much about them but i know of one that is forever in the garage.
The last thing i remember failing on it was the brake servo and for some strange reason they put that inside the bell-housing and what a job.

I dont think I'd be driving it anywhere. Surely, for the dealers' own sake, it should be transported away, preferably back to them for a refund.
If you drive it and the enging lets go, it has the potential to become a whole world of pain about liability.

Turbocharger would be a good bet as that will dump raw oil into the exhaust side. Definitely one for the dealer to collect, or the AA/RAC to transport to them if you have cover. Money back time methinks.

Id agree reject it if you can as time is running out , the longer you leave it the harder it will be , not your problem , having just experienced turbo failure this week on my old passat I can confirm it fills the exhaust with a lot of oil and a smokescreen James bond would be proud off , took 2 pints of oil out of the intercooler after only a further 1/4 mile of very slow driving till I got space to pull in and it wasn't going any further

I would get it back to the dealer asap and demand a refund under the consumer act 2015 .......

Reads, to me, like the seller is hoping you will take it to any old garage who is prepared to attempt to deal with whoever the third-party warranty provider is - because said seller doesn't want the aggravation of either the job or the admin.

Update. Finally got a response from the dealer - although we did have to use legal email and letter. They now have 7 days to do something. Bit tricky as our driveway is being rebuilt on Thurs for 2-3 weeks.. My neighbour who is a farmer says he will tow it round to his yard in the meantime with the JCB.. I may Tiktok that..

Ok chaps here is an update on the Audi Q7..
We were in the process of having our driveway redone so I had to get the q7 out of the way. Fortunately our neighbour is a farmer so he had plenty of space until I could find a local garage to take it on.
There is a LandRover specialist not far from us called M J Rolls and the repaired our discovery a few months back. They have a big yard so they said get it to us and we will fit it in when we can.
I went to see them today and you would not believe what has (potentially) transpired…
Upon lifting the bonnet and removing the plastic engine cover they found one of the injectors unplugged.
What I didn’t mention was that when I noticed the oil etc it was just after a test drive with a potential buyer. MJ Rolls is certain we have had an attempt at a scam as they have seen it several times before for Range rovers and Mercedes.
This is how it works:-
2 or 3 guys turn up to view the car (tick)
One of them wants to see the paperwork (tick) - this leaves or in my case left two of them with the open car while we were inside. I had the key tho.
Not interested in looking under the hood until after the test drive (tick)
Insist on revving the engine and driving hard (tick). I was driving so I drove how I wanted.
On return from the test drive want to look at the engine and rev it (tick)
That’s when the problem was noticed by me.
Apparently what they do is pour some dirty oil in the coolant tank and maybe splash it around the engine thus making it look like there is a fault.
Thinking back (and I’ll check my cctv) that as soon as the oil was spotted one of the guys was immediately sticking his finger in the coolant tank and saying it was misfiring. And like I said - an injector was unplugged.
Not only that, as soon as the problem was noticed they were offering me £3k cash to take it away. Surely most buyers would walk (it was for sale for 12k)?
At MJRolls today it started and ran sweet as a nut. The only thing that hasn’t been explained is the oil coming from the tailpipes.
The garage is going to completely flush the coolant system, give it a good check over and run it up to temp etc to see what happens.

I’ve certainly heard of the injector and coolant scam before. Oil in the tailpipes is a new one though. I guess one of the oiks could have squirted some in there whilst you weren’t looking.

It's scary what they will do today to scam you.
I have a 320d i want to sell but have not put it up for sale due to all this and to old plus disabled to watch them if you get what i am saying.
It's just sat there for coming up to 5 months now wit a little run round once a month taxed and insured just in case.
