Checklist for F15 before buying?

Post by libra007 » Tue May 07, 2024 11:50 am

Just being forced by ULEZ goons to change from E70 to F15 or later

been looking around for a suitable and good spec, found one 2017 30D, has everthing sans comfort seats service history is mixed with BMW and indi.
it has last 2 mot with rear diff oil misting/minor leaks. seller has changed the seals and new MOT planning to check and collect car in few days

Any obvious other things to look for?

went to see and collect 200 miles away, plugged in the scanner, there were like 60 plus fault codes, after asking owner to clear these? 3 didnt go away after a short drive and were permament errors. glow plug, alarm sensor faulty on sunroof, and electric steering

top of that owner didnt share in advance they have finance that will be cleared by me or transferring to them to clear it. Dont know good or bad BMW finance closed by the time we agreed on price and i was ready to transfer money to them to clear it off. They wanted me to pay and take the car still and they will settle on Monday. That was too much of risk as outstanding amount was 80 percent of the price, so I took the train back home and get more time to think about it.
Now I am double minded, bodywise its fine and have good options too, engine not so sure as after they bought from BMW, it never went back to BMW for service and indi service looks patch too. engine bay was too dirty and rusted too. idle noise was way louder.

I wouldn't be leaving the seller to clear the finance you are putting yourself at risk, it doesn't sound that great plenty more out there

Walk away!

Glow plugs will need all replacing plus the controller. Doing only a couple and not replacing the controller is wasted effort as the rest will go usually shortly after. If the engine bay was dirty then there’s a real chance of a plug snapping. I had two go on my X6 and the repair bill at a specialist was £800 four years ago.

Electric steering faults are also very expensive to fix. It went on my F46 (2 series Gran Tourer) and the repair bill was more than £2k according to the dealer. I can’t imagine the F15 being any cheaper.

With finance like that you could be in a world of trouble, especially if there were any issues that surfaced after you’d driven off.
:ant: Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Yes not thinking to go for this as firmly believe current owner didnt keep up with service and care these cars require. will keep looking for nice. @20K it wasnt a bargain anyway with all these issues.
